What if someone with AIDS rapes someone else, and that person later dies from the illness? Would that be a form of murder?

I believe that if the state can prove that the rapist knew they were HIV positive at the time of the rape, then yes. At least in the places where most cop shows are set.

33 states have HIV specific laws. In some states it is attempted murder for an HIV person to have sex without telling their partners of their condition. Depending upon the state it is possible what you described could be considered murder but generally would not be.
