Although I agree that social media certainly had a role in distributing messages and organizing aspects of the riots I would argue that, at its core, what happened throughout England last week is not drastically different from past instances of civic unrest. Social media was really just a tool that rioters used in their criminal cause and politicians must now move beyond this and address the real issues that the riots brought out.
