I cruised by the FB page of John Boehner, and noticed that two big themes in his posts are the national debt and jobs. At one point he mentions "job-crushing debt." How does the national debt cost the US jobs? The closest I can guess is that debt payments cost money that must be paid by taxpayers, but since another big part of his platform is to lower taxes (and regulation) as much as possible on businesses, and he obviously thinks that doing this will create jobs, the conclusion would be that he thinks the debt is not their problem and shouldn't affect them.

The debt is only big if the economy is small. Economy grows by jobs and productivity. Business owners don't give a shit whether the national debt is growing or shrinking. They don't hire or fire based on that.

Boehner is full of it, and his narrow minded constituents believe him enough to elect him.

Lowering taxes unfortunately won't work as well today to create jobs and increase government revenue like it did during the Bush presidency. There are too many other factors that will negatively influence any positive impact lower taxes will have. We'll have to wait until 2013 when a Republican takes over and corrects all the deficiencies we've seen under Obama first.

Lowering taxes without reducing spending is also a waste of time since it just means you are taxing people via the money printing tax instead.

Government taxes what it spends since it has no resources on its own.

If the government is giving money to someone that means the private sector loses the ability to give that money since 100% of the things that government uses comes from the private sector. This means that if the government is paying a wage for someone to be a janitor somewhere then the private sector loses the ability to hire a janitor in a company somewhere.

So what happens when the government spending goes up? Private sector jobs are ''crushed''.

Am I the only one noticing the contradiction here?

When the government spends, it employs people. Contrary to libertarian-fantasy-land-belief, the government employs people - not robots.

These people that have money buy things. These things are provided for by businesses. These businesses employ people.

Let's look at the most wacky way possible to keep the government involved:

Sally is a sinister-socialist-Kindergarten teacher that must be murdered by a lolbertarian terrorist attack on a train, like in Atlas Shrugged.

Sally pays her protection-racket theft to the communist-overlord-nazi-government. These taxes then go buy a wasteful Mars rover that will do nothing, because we have to perfect life on Earth and wallow in ignorance before we attempt to learn anything about the sky. Besides, this kind of arrogance is what brought the Tower of Babel down.

The Mars rover is commissioned by the communist-liberal-elite-book-smart-climate-change-lying scientists at socialist NASA. They pay a private company to build it, which heroically does so by paying workers...DAMN it. It's almost as if the capitalist system has a capitalist government!

These workers then pay taxes, which pay people to build roads...damn it. Again, a private construction company is contracted out.
