So we can lift more into space. Big woop. It still needs to be more to go to Mars from what I have been reading. Let alone interstellar space travel.

Nonetheless I know a scam when I see one.

Membership gives you the opportunity to enter the lottery BTW. And a lifetime membership is just $300. It also gives you the chance to work in SPACE.

A commercial rocket can lift twice the load of the next best lifter for a third the cost. big whoop?

Rewatch the vid at 30mins in to see the boosters fucking land! You are going to have to eat so much shit over the next decades and the rest of your life. lol.

I remember X-Space managed to land boosters but it wasn't successful every time. But even it it was and the cost of launch decreases, that is still an awful lot of lottery tickets and donations to reach a cost of $100 billion dollars (which I suspect is a conservative figure that will be exceeded.)

This space station will never be built. It is a scam! Like when some guy decided to sell plots of land on the moon from the Internet.

People will buy into anything.

It can be built and it can be profitable. $100 billion is a lot of money for a start up but it is feasible. If Jeff Bezos wanted to go full retard he has enough money in his personal piggy bank to finance the project all by himself.

The price tag is comparable to airports although about ten times as much as most.

Just face the fact that your personal belief that private enterprise is limited to earth is a false one.

Bezos wealth is in assets rather than disposable income. Although I expect this project is more likely to be 10 trillion rather than 100 billion if you just compare ISS size and technological advancement to it. Not that it matters. It is a scam. But just for curiosity, have you played their lottery yet?

Assets can be sold and leveraged. Your estimates are worthless, also the ISS is a government project and they are always grossly inefficient so it makes for a very poor measure for a private enterprise. My local council just spent over £3million on a short piece of tarmac. Government is full of leeches and corruption.

I don't play lotteries.

With like minded attitudes simular to this I expect great things for the Gateway Foundation.

Needless to say Bezos isn't putting a penny into this project and neither is any other billionaire. Although sure he can leverage his business and lose it if he likes. And major projects like this always under estimate the costs as it is easier to persuade people to buy into the project FYI. Although I suspect this business consists on a handful of (con artists) people who have yet to design anything but animation and whose sole job is to finance the project. Once they get enough money they will fold the business and walk away with many dumb asses spare change. Please be one of them.

Whatever the merits of this particular project, it remains if humans are going to go into space sustainably and in ever increasing numbers then it will have to be done substantially by private enterprise. Governments alone can't and won't do it.

Sooner or later we must have private space stations, private transport networks same as we have on earth.

B0ycey wrote:Which is why we will not be colonising or exploring interstellar space. This is too rich for the capitalist blood. And it national interests that is leading space exploration FYI. China are talking about a lunar base. Although even this is unlikely to be in our life time.

National interests will never do more than small scale science missions. There are fortunes to be made out there so you can bet fortune seekers will go to get it. The biggest hump to get over is the cost of climbing out of earth's gravity well and private enterprise has already lowered that through the falcon-heavy, as shown earlier in the thread. After that everything gets easier.

No socialist economy has to be 100 percent purely inter nationalistic. If humans settle on planets that are so far away that it takes communication speeds that are faster than light to communicate with other far planets that have humans on it, then each planet that is that far away from each other can have their own socialist models. Hence on the planet Earth alone, there can be different socialist states that co exist due to different people having different standards.

This topic only proves to Western Marxists, and die heart internationalists that their 100 percent inter nationalistic and inter galactic forms of socialism may not be 100 percent achievable. There are alternatives to extreme internationalism and extreme inter galactic forms of socialism.

I highly doubt that Somalians would have the same standards and views as the Swedes for instance, and both people are on the planet Earth.

If we care about the fortunes of our species we should all agree that spreading out into space is a good thing that should happen even if not everyone would want to go. If we think it is a good thing then we should all agree that both government and civilian enterprises should be allowed to go out there.

Apart from anything else governments live off of civilians so if there are no civilians in space then the government doesn't really have a reason to go out there except for the odd science mission. Government's main job is running a military but if there are no civilians in space they have no one to protect so they wouldn't even have reason to develop a space military.

If you love big government you need big civilian enterprise to support it, that is as true in space as it is on earth.
