The long road has killed more people than any other ideology - Page 4 - Politics Forum.org | PoFo

As either the transitional stage to communism or legitimate socio-economic ends in its own right.

Katie Boundary wrote:Wherever you see rising economic inequality in a capitalist system, a close look will show subsidies, monopoly privileges, and other government favors - not free-market forces - are the root of the problem.
And this is the libertarian faith, as demented and irrational in its way as the Communists and the Apocalyptic Jihadists of the Islamic State.

The real debate that we should be having is not between capitalism and socialism, but between free markets and politically-tilted ones.
Yeah right as if there is some pure platonic market existing out in the ether, independently of a political system. Libertarianism, Communists and Theocrats all sell these utopian systems that exist outside of politics. Of course the real world can never compete with these fantasies.

It's not faith. It's provable by looking at the actual chains of events that lead to every economic disaster.

K.B. Said: The real debate that we should be having is not between capitalism and socialism, but between free markets and politically-tilted ones.
The problem with that being that any free market can be politically manipulated. In reality, regulation is necessary to stabilize the market. Capitalism buys and sells regulation ... Hence a socialist government is required to maintain a fair and balanced market. This is of course just one aspect of a socialist government. And it is just another mile marker on the "Long Road" to the evolution of the new man.

What is true of the gun is true of ideology. Ideologies don't kill people, people kill people. Also why assume killing people is necessarily a bad thing?

Human beings are creatures of the jungle, like lions, tigers and bears (oh my!); we have about 3 billion years of genetic heritage that has primed us to be stone cold killers. A lot of people were killed on the long road to nowhere, fine. A lot of people were killed for manifest destiny, sure. So what? People killed people which is something people have been doing to other people since before some clever ape shaped a rock into a crude shiv. Ideology makes for a nice excuse to kill for some, muslims and communists for example love a nice ideology to colour their killer instincts, but no one really needs a fancy jewish ideology as an excuse to kill someone. I want their stuff, I am afraid, I am hungry, she's sexy, I love to feel like a powerful predator, they are the enemy, I feel like it, any of those excuses are good enough.

There is such a thing as moderation. We can choose not to be extreme capitalists or extreme socialists, but instead choose a pragmatic path. Economics should not exist for any purpose other than to ensure that society is comfortable and harmonious. Therefore economics should not be a matter of ideology but simply utility.

If some socialist policies can help us to progress then we should enact them. If some capitalist policies are also useful then we can use them too. The main thing is to ensure we have full employment, a relative level of wealth among all of society, good housing and access to health care and education.

You can't take your information from "the black book" of communism.... just the name is...
And as far as i know, theres only one study with real archives from USSR, that states the numbers have been misunderstood and exaggereted.
But im not naive, and of course there were political victims, not only liberals, in socialist processes.

But thats not part of socialist theory, the same as in cappitalism, not everything is related to the hegemonic ideology. If you really want to judge with same parameters, then cappitalism casualties are many times more big number than socialist.
