OK I rewrote this here because not many people commenting on it on the African forum, now knowing from my name you know what I think, so I going to say it again what I said on the other forum:Ethiopia should reinstate it's monarchy, be it a constitutional monarchy, with a parliament democracy, the people of Ethiopia are not prospering under this democratic socialist regime. Child trafficking is high and yet the government does nothing. Ethiopia was better off when they had a monarchy be it with changes yea, it made Ethiopia special and stand out to all other African countries, They're also similar to Japan in many ways. Under the monarchy they both resisted colonization, the Emperors had an imperial cult. They both tried to modernized to name a few. Ethiopia must return to the monarchy so it can unified the people and address the problems they are facing, and tried to fix them.

What you need is capitalism and free trade. The main thing political people can do is not steal too much from the creative people and let them get on with creating prosperity. Whether those political people call themselves monarchists or democrats is barely relevant, the only useful thing they can do is sell a protection racket and not do anything else.

Yeah, a freer market would definitely help. I'd be in favor of a mutualist economy that would combine a free market with a wide dispersal of the means of production. This could be cautiously achieved with restricting the inheritance. For instance: Firms would just be turned into worker coops once the founder-owner is no longer personally active as the chief executive of an entrepreneurial firm.

Monarchism doesn't sound like the optimal system. This doesn't mean I prefer western style democracy since I think that a three-class franchise which is based on actual merit/skills/knowledge (or even taxation) would be the way to go.

The Imperial Family is alive and kicking, they even have website about their philanthropy projects. Really the Derg was more of threat to the Imperial Dynasty than the Italians. You haven't heard about the protests?

it is because of landgrab.
That and a minority ethnic group runs Ethiopia they're full Tigrayan and don't cater to Amahra or Omoro needs, at the same time, they're trying to modernize the nation. I actually need to catch up on contemporary issues in Ethiopia, so I get the gist of it. But apparently they're not giving much private ownership of land to the farmers, and they're bitching about factories in their ethnic lands. In my opinion I want the government to collapse but I don't trust secession movements in these protest, especially with Somalia, Eritrea Egypt and Saudis creeping up on us.
