I don't find this to be especially surprising.
For years, postmodernism has appealed to the media in order to deconstruct social fabric, but Trump has learned how to use the media in order to deconstruct postmodernism.
The implication is that for all postmodernists rejected idealism before, they are now rejected by non-idealists. For all they clamored about power before, they are now targeted by the powerful.
We see this especially from how a majority of union members outside of teacher unions voted for Trump, and how they spite the abundance of university graduates now who are under or unemployed while earning a poorer standard of living than them.
Trump is not Reagan, but he managed his own sort of Reagan Revolution among Reagan Democrats. He has rallied the working class with populism as an inevitable consequence of what happens when deconstruction becomes the centerpiece of your platform - you have nothing constructed to depend on. Those who do have something will use what they have against those who have nothing.
