Look, Abrahamic God-based religion has been a scourge. It convinced people - via crude brainwashing techniques like repetition and emotional transfer - that each person is living for a reputation that is judged in a dramatic final moment by a totalitarian patriarch.
Later, mass media convinced us that our reputations (that get us to heaven) are constructed through conspicuous consumption of high-end products and services.
The result has been unsatisfied, under-socialized societies that consume enough resources to commit planetary suicide.
