Interesting connections are drawn between religion and communism not just in the context of what's written, but also in the structure of the movements themselves. The obsession with realism created a lot of change in the short-term, but lots of stagnation over the long-term.

I don't believe it is possible to deny that the Christian idea that we are all equal before god is the germ that lead of Communism. Perhaps the communists would have done better if they had not shed the divine together with the self-appointed and corrupt representatives of god on earth. The original sin is the human hubris that we think we know best what paradise on earth ought to be like. That doesn't leave any room for the infinite potentiality of the divine.
