Bleh... My list of 5-star television is not much longer than 5

1.Deadwood
2.Mad Men
3.The Wire
4.Breaking Bad
5.House

though lately I enjoy UK Top Gear (seems like I've seen them all now though), the Daily Show, The Walking Dead.

And of course there are other fun shows around like Futurama, South Park, Game of Thrones (first season started out 2 star (garbage production and awkwardly pornographic) and ended 4 star (production got better and the plot thickened dramatically).

I only watch television shows online, and then I watch one series at a time from beginning to end, kind of like reading a novel.

My all-time fave is a legal thriller/psycho-drama type thing with Glenn Close called Damages. I just love that.

Other than Toddlers & Tiaras, I can't really think of any other shows I've gotten excited about, except maybe House of Cards with Ian Richardson.

That's how we do it too. His Nibs down-loads completed series, puts them onto Media Gate, then we watch them in 2 hour chunks, on Sunday nights. My brother-in-law comes for dinner. I'm considering cancelling cablevison, since we really only use it for news. Google news could fill the breach.

Definitely "I, Claudius", as mentioned earlier, together with "Decalogue," "Shogun," "The Prisoner" (1967), and "Barney Miller".
#14144798
Oh, I forgot about The Prisoner. :)

Go for it. There's tons of news online. (I've never had cable, haven't owned a television set in like 15 years, and can still converse with civilized people in most walks of life.)

The finest thing ever put on TV, the election episode is particularly amazing.

We really enjoyed the first couple of seasons, but lost track of it when it went to another "network" (DirectTV? I don't recall.) Was the last season as good as the first two?
