...unfortunately. But that's just my opinion.

Do you mean we should fight for an authority just by virtue of it being an authority?

I trust the federal gov't about as far as I could throw Rosie O'donnel (sp?) after she finished eating ten tons of sushi and is in the process of mating with a hippopatamus, all the while i have to stand on one leg and can only use the pinky finger of my left hand.

Of course I don't trust them ...

- Congress. There to fill their pockets and fill the pockets of their freinds.

- President. There to help his freinds in congress fill their pockets and help their freinds fill their pockets.

- Military. There to do the bidding of the president, which generally speaking has some corporations interests before the peoples. Meaning they are being used to protect the wealth of the wealthy, not the people.

- Agencies such as the CIA or FBI. There to enforce laws which are meant to restrict freedoms. Generally wasting tax payer money on high profile or agenda driven cases while allowing real threats to pass on bye, why would they do that? Easy, it means a bigger budget next year.

I don't trust state or local gov't either. They are all scum, every last one of them. Its pathetic, this entire system fails the people but benefits those who can manipulate it. I am sickened by my gov't.

Money means all.

that would be quite a site now  , im afraid of the american government and im not even in the states. I forget where they got this qout, but it was in refernce to computer crimes (it could be anything), the FBI said "we will not let borders stop us we will get you no matter where you live" (somthing like that) so they will have a total disregard for weather a county has extradition with the united states or otherwise (that kind of freaks me out). The american government has also done radiation experiments to thousands of inoccent people, as well as mind control tests with LSD.
So to sumerize, yes i dont trust the American government,
sorry if this was an american only thread.

As a child, I grew up believing the nationalist propaganda that the United States protects the freedom and rights of all people and that the governments of the United States are designed so that the people at large run the show. Whether the politician is Democratic or Republican, I see selfish grabs for power and laws designed to benefit the few who can bribe (I mean, lobby and contribute to) our supposed representatives.

The Republican Party has shown itself to be especially bad after September 11, 2001. It was immediately obvious to me that, since wars generally increase the popularity of the incumbent party, a series of wars against "terrorism" would be the perfect way to lock the Republican Party in power. At the same time, the government has created new laws (e.g., the Patriot Act) that erode civil rights and bring the United States closer to being a police state. Attorney-General John Ashcroft has toured the country giving speeches to local law enforcement on how new terrorism laws could be used against common criminals (e.g., drug users could be using chemical weapons of terrorism).

A far less well-known example is the transition to electronic voting. The leader of a company that developed electronic, paperless voting machines for Ohio has stated in a Republican-oriented newsletter that he would deliver Ohio to the Republicans in 2004. And, as it turns out, the electronic voting system has very weak security and may even have had a backdoor that could allow easy access for vote fraud.

Honestly, I think it's not too unlikely that the remaining semblances of popular, constitutional democracy could vanish within the next couple of decades or sooner if this state of affairs continues. When will our American emperors no longer feel the need to hide behind the trappings of democracy as the Roman emperors eventually abandoned the republican pretense?

Improve? No, I have no faith in my fellow man. We are pathetic greedy little shits that cant see further than our own greasy fat fingers can reach.

Anyway ...

A socialist revolution that placed the people before the profits, a workable system that cared for all the people ...

No, I dont see it happening, there is no money in it.

I am cynical, I admit I might not have all the answers ... but that does not mean I dont know using a cannon to kill a fly is a bad idea ... catch my drift?
Personally I never criticise something that I can't come up with a better idea for. If there's no way to improve it, what's the point of making a fuss?

I trust my government (all levels) only as far as I have the power to defend myself against any bonehead moves on their part. Thus far (the last 50+ years), I have easily had the power to remedy/abate any injustices done to me and mine.

Governing large groups of people is a difficult task to get "right". Mostly because, in order to adequately serve the vast majority (fringes don't count in my book - nothing will satisfy them), someone's oxen have to be gored.
