I don't see anything wrong with the President dictating a letter or writing one himself to be delivered to his administration's Attorney General. Anyway, Attorney General Sessions had already recused himself from the current investigation of Russian interference in the election of President Trump.

The inspector general's report is said to be coming out in September now. Doesn't sound very good for Comey and that makes me wonder who else might be implicated.
