There's nothing I can say at this point. There's no excuse for letting this go on.

Pity we'll get what we always get, thoughts and prayers. :|

I mean, it's definitely not something that can be dealt with, since it's always forgotten a week - or nowadays, days - after an attack.

Still, what do you think could or should be done to deal with this problem?

Theres the straight forward stuff that gets discussed like background checks and closing the gun show loophole. There should also be bans on certain things like bump stocks and what not.

Really though there is a deeper and harder to address issue about the culture of the United States here which is much harder to address. Perhaps at some level simply upping mental health services and general welfare can improve peoples lives to the point where these things are less frequent but at the same time theres such a weird culture around guns in the US that I don't really know how to fix it.

They should certainly be more difficult to get though, and people who start buying crazy stuff like extra magazines and powerful weapons of war should be checked in on or something.

It's such a systematic problem that I don't know how to truly fix it at it's root.

What's really sad though is that I don't think we can do even the most simple common sense things to even effect the problem on the margin because it's become such a rabid cultural issue.

Yeah, the problem is because of the culture and I feel, impossible to eradicate.

What if there was a ban on violence in media/entertainment? Could that happen?

What if ma fellow 'mericans picked socialism over barbarism? Is it possible? :D

Why is this even news in the USA? There's no point in feeling bad and posting this, since Americans are not interested in fixing the problem.

Americans need to realize that gun control, not thoughts and prayers, is the only solution. Unfortunately, guns make some people a lot of money, so Americans are against this.

Maybe an alternate solution is to just make sure these stories never make it to the media, so Americans can feel safer, and still not have to do anything about their problems.

Almost certainly not, and I'm not sure you could enforce such a ban without also banning media covering extremely important events. Some movies may also have a lot of artistic merit driven by violent themes.

When I was a kid, we watched more American shows than Canadian. All the pro gun shows aired, yet the gun culture things never caught on in a big way. Most guys had cars up the wazoo, not guns. I don't think I knew a kid with a gun except in England. All my cousins hunt.

I think it's your mental health system, or lack of it. A lot of the shooters have had brain tumors (that 1968 case of the Texan water tower shooter) or nuts, eg Sandy Hook and thar orange haired guy who shot up a movie theater. Maybe a voluntary high school graduation mental health thingee would be a start, if you want to buy guns and need a mental health certificate

Fix your gun laws. That will reduce the criminal component
