It says on the first page of this thread that the flowers blooming are supposed to represent Hawaii, Chicago, and Kenya.

I don't think it's supposed to be cotton, I think that it's supposed to represent a general blossoming. The interview with the artist makes it pretty clear that he thought of the whole process, with himself in mind more than Obama, was like a big final culmination of everything he had done. And I suspect that he wanted to contextualize Obama as the same kind of blossoming.

But I prefer to see it as Black Bush.

Kenya, the place he wasn't born in...

I consider myself a bit of a artist. I have some practice scheduled tomorrow. I would never draw tilesets but I guess his philosophy is different than mine.
