"Michael Gerhardt, a professor at the University of North Carolina School of Law, added that "the record compiled thus far shows that the president has committed several impeachable offenses, including bribery, abuse of power in soliciting a personal favor from a foreign leader to benefit his political campaign, obstructing Congress and obstructing justice."

"I cannot help but conclude that this president has attacked each of the Constitution's safeguards against establishing a monarchy in this country," he said. "Both the context and gravity of the president's misconduct are clear."

Later, responding to questions, Gerhardt said, "If what we are talking about is not impeachable, nothing is impeachable."

It's lame. The whole thing. Trump is neither a king or a dictator. He's a two-term president who beat Hillary Clinton, showing that a bloated, alcoholic, drug-addled, arrogant and condescending establishment could be beaten by a sober political neophyte with enough money to self fund through the primaries.

Trump will leave office peacefully and voluntarily, but not before he does great destruction to an establishment that deserves a comeuppance.

Never said he was. But the best legal minds in the country say he's getting close.

How do you manage to be so wrong, so often? The establishment is fine, it's the rest of country we need to worry about. Where do you think 99% of his tax cut went??? You know where.

Bring out the retards!

So we had all the Conservative retards that said that Obama would make himself king. All the Libertarian retards who predicted hyper inflation after the 2008 crash, Yes where did all the Libertarians go? Now we've got a chance for all the Liberal retards to expose themselves over Trump.

Prof Tribe literally wrote the textbook on Constitutional law. A generation of law students were trained using that book.

You can easily argue that Tribe is one of the best legal minds in the country, and in the top 3 where the constitution is concerned.

He is beyond brilliant, and this sort of thing is his home turf.

You're kinda out of your depth, just by a mile or two.

It's funny to me that many folks voted for Trump in order to "shake things up," but they simultaneously believe there will be no consequences or accountability for him acting unpresidential. They seem to think that millions of Americans should not think for themselves about the POTUS's abuses of power and instead follow Trump like brainless sheep, supporting him regardless of how he acts and what lies and nonsense comes out of his loud mouth. This impeachment is what checks and balances look like when a president truly believes the rules and the law do not apply to him. I fully support an impeachment of this out of control president. It's not about the 2016 election--which Trump lost by 3 million votes--it's about making sure that Donald Trump understands he is not above the law. DONALD is getting HIS comeuppance

Have you noted the Silence of the Hams today?

The people leading them by the nose aren't done working up the next wave of propaganda yet.

"Unpresidential" isn't a crime of any sort. In fact, it's what his base likes about him. Alexander Mercouris made a point today about that: that to his supporters, Trump comes across as "authentic," which many people seem to mistake for "credible" or "honest." Trump says what's on his mind at any point in time. He's not like the standard politician that stalls for time and says something glib and soporific. Trump is more likely to say something that is spot on, something many voters agree with, and say it in a most gauche and insipid manner that many voters disagree with. It's actually quite remarkable.

The problem for Democrats is that they went forward with this and cannot cite a "rule" or a "law" that is applicable to the situation. Some gauzy abstraction like "abuse of power" isn't selling.

His approval numbers are going up again. It's counter-intuitive, but Trump is more popular when he's directly fighting with the establishment.

Have you noticed that the Democrats have no chance in hell of pulling this off? They are already demoralized. Nancy Pelosi looked fearful in her announcement today--she's trying to hold it together, but she knows there is going to be a political price for this stunt. She may want out of this situation, but she's more or less on for the ride whether she likes it or not.

Your problem is any damn fool can understand that the Ukraine phone call is dirty. It's everything our Founding Fathers were afraid of, wrapped up in an ugly orange package.

They've already pulled it off. What you mean is removing him from office. While it would be nice if Republicans got a spine implanted in their back, after getting a massive injection of ethics to replace their dead conscience... that was always a long shot. What isn't a long shot is that he will be impeached, his name tarnished, his legacy a warning to future generations.

Pelosi is watching the country get ripped to shreds on her watch. Kinda obvious..

The founders weren't afraid of Ukraine. They were afraid of France and Britain. If you think you can prove a case against Trump, you should bring it. Nobody is stopping you.

Free advertising dwarfing the $50M he got in 2016. He will win easily.

At her instigation. So what?

They were afraid of any foreign country gaining undue influence. C'mon, this is high school level..

There are several cases, or should I say there will be? Cohen is in jail for campaign finance violations. Trump is equally guilty, at the least. There is the Russia thing, the Ukraine thing, the Emoulements clause. If he loses the election, no one will be stopping the Justice Dept.

I had no idea Pelosi was president, and destroyed our leadership of the free world, ruined the State Dept, corrupted Justice, degraded many of the agencies, and set off a manufacturing recession with his brain dead trade wars.

No, that's silly. It's going to be close, possibly even closer than last time. He has the highest negatives of any president since Hoover. So while he will lose the popular vote by 4 or 5 million, it will come down to a small number of people in a handful of states, again. These are not exactly our best informed voters...

They were tiresome hypocrites who were quite happy to accept French, Spanish and Dutch troops on their soil.

Which is so close to zero relevance you couldn't slip a virus in between.

They were born into a world of aristocrats and war, and died having created a much better way of governing.

Campaign violations rarely warrant imprisonment. He's in prison for tax fraud and lying to Congress.

Clearly he isn't, or he would have been charged.

Don't get your hopes up.

And Prussians. Late claims that Baron von Steuben was gay and wrote the UCMJ. Pretty soon, he'll be claiming that the Kurds had a hand in the American revolution.

That, surprisingly, is a good point

Nope, he can't be charged while president.

Too late.
