Part 1:

The Voting Rights Act used to require pre-clearance to change anything to do with voting. The racists kept at it, trying to sneak things through.

Then the Supreme Court lied and said pre-clearance wasn't needed. The very next day the largest voter suppression bill in American history was passed in NC.

Do I even need to say that the Trump justice dept has done nothing about voter suppression? Of course not.

So what we are about to see is a tidal wave of voter suppression moves. Organisations like the ACLU have limited funds, and they are going to try and overwhelm them with hundreds of changes.

After their plate gets full, and we get closer to the election... that's when they open the floodgates and bring back Jim Crow.

If they win, expect the return of Jim Crow. It was suppressed, but it's been making a comeback. If Trump wins, expect more racism, a lot more.

Elections have consequences.

Trump is going to win a big chunk of the black vote.

Herman Cain: Growing support for Trump among black voters has Democrats 'terrified'

Trump has gained among black voters since the 2016 election
Trump shocks black voters — by trying to get their votes

“I thought it was quite abnormal,” said Bobby Henry, the newspaper’s publisher and CEO. He said a reader sought him out at church last weekend to ask what was up. “For [Trump] to reach out to the broader African American community is what surprised me.”

Yet that’s precisely what Trump is doing.

The president’s reelection campaign has spent $1 million in an effort to make inroads with black voters, and more is coming, according to a person with direct knowledge of the planning. The initiative, dubbed “Black Voices” by the campaign, so far has included ads in black-run newspapers and on radio stations, volunteer training seminars and a kickoff event hosted by Trump in Atlanta last month.

The Trump ads tout low unemployment among African Americans, Trump’s support for historically black colleges and universities, and the White House-backed criminal reform legislation that passed earlier this year.

It's one thing to try to win black voters in ad buys. It's another thing to target black run newspapers and television. That's putting money in their pockets. The Democrats are in real trouble. Sanders, Buttigieg and Bloomberg will turn off black voters. Many might just sit it out.

Trump received just 8 percent of the black vote in 2016, and his campaign aides concede he’s never going to win more than a narrow slice of African American support. But that’s not the point, they argue. If Trump can nudge his way into double digits among black voters and potentially into the low teens, it would eat away at Democratic margins in key swing states and possibly alter the outcome in a close election.

With a 40% approval rating among blacks, it's not out of the question for Trump to win something like 15% of the black vote, which could tip the election.

Democrats say they’re on high alert against potential voter suppression. Many in the party remain shaken by Russian-led efforts to dampen black enthusiasm for Clinton, and one Democratic strategist pointed to a brochure that surfaced recently in Virginia describing how “modern-day Jim Crow Democrats are keeping Black Americans under heel.”

Today's Red Scare is going to make the history books too. This makes McCarthyism look like a walk in the park. However, it does have a pleasant smell of desperation.

The question is always which Moscow Rule these days.

That one is Distraction.

Much of the cheating is always aimed straight at minorities, and mostly Black voters. And you think they will vote for the people trying to bring back Jim Crow.

Oh, Sunshine, you are something.

Nobody wants to bring back slavery the only ones who are obsessed with race are Democrats they are the biggest racists who are obsessed with race and identity politics even their candidates are trying to imitate a black accent infront of black audience this is low and beyond pathetic

I think your latest effort is just delusional. Black voters have heard that every single election cycle. It's pretty much like clockwork. The problem is that it's losing its effect.

Blacks are quite aware racism is getting worse, if you paid attention.

The ACLU seems to be opposed to voter identification laws; at least that is what is implied on their website. Apparently they believe that black people, the elderly, students, etc are either too poor or too lazy to register to vote and then show up to the polls with their drivers license or state issued ID card. I guess they believe in election tampering or otherwise unfair elections.

No one really believes in a conspiracy theory that evil white people are still trying to keep blacks from voting except for boomers who sit around watching MSNBC all day and black female college students who enroll in college courses to learn about white privilege.

Because you cannot believe that cities should not require people to have an ID to vote while also believing that people should have to register their firearms or to give their real names and mobile phone numbers to have a Facebook account.

If Trump is a racist then why don't we already have Jim Crow?

Facts ain't theories.

For starters, check the several hundred pages documenting suppression attempts in the VRA Re-authorisation.

And that's just one source. Try reading real news.

The first step now, and in the 1800s, was to disenfranchise Black people. If Trump wins, they will finish the job.

"It’s getting old detailing all the crappy ways that Republicans try to game elections rather than just going out and trying to win them. The latest comes from Georgia, where the game is to hold down black turnout by closing the polling places most convenient to black folks:

Civil rights advocates are objecting to a proposal to close about 75 percent of polling locations in a predominantly black south Georgia county.

This is the kind of stuff that the Voting Rights Act was supposed to prevent. A state like Georgia with a history of black disenfranchisement isn’t supposed to be able to move around polling places without getting preclearance from the Department of Justice. But that all ended when the pre-Gorsuch, pre-Kavanaugh Roberts Court decided it was conservative enough to declare racism obsolete."

That's one example. There are hundreds more.

So you are complaining about one state where the entire leftist establishment determined that the people of Georgia voted the wrong way to in the 2018 mid term elections. Your source appears to quote an ACLU representative who is advancing a conspiracy theory that racists in Georgia closed the polling stations in some areas for no other reasons other than to suppress the black vote.

So how do you explain the closure of 140 polling stations in Phoenix, where both the wealthy and poor were affected by polling stations that had been closed. By the way, Maricopa County, Ariz., is about 83% white according to the US Census.

Rich, poor both underserved by slim polling options

Image
Looks like a bunch of white people standing in a long line just to vote. Was the city trying to suppress their votes?

In Maricopa County, Ariz., election officials decided to save money by closing 140 polling locations before the 2016 election. The result: confusion, long lines and frustrated voters at sites across Phoenix – the state’s capital and a majority-minority city. The county also lost about 270 poll workers

An analysis by The Arizona Republic after the election, found that both rich and poor areas in Maricopa County were left underserved by the lack of polling sites, but the review found polling places were particularly sparse in poorer areas such as west Phoenix and Glendale.

Yeah, they don't seem to realize that no blacks have had those accents since at least the 1960s. It probably won't matter, because blacks have been voting for Democrats for so long that it has become like an automatic reflex and a family tradition.

Frankly the discussion is not going anywhere.

What I see is, everyday, a certain anti-Trump / anti-Republican person posts something, either based on facts or pure theory, that how he believes the Russians or Republicans has been or are going to ruin the United States.

After that, his opponents eagerly jump out to accuse him, or those he supports / apparently sides with, of hypocrisy / dishonesty / exaggeration / etc.

However, neither side seem interested in making arguments around events and points, and rather focus their arguments around personal attacks, with the pro-Republican / pro-Trump side even more so. Sometimes it's just a phrasing matter -- making a sentence's subject different can already make a difference.

IMHO it is better to ignore some statements if they have to be refuted with personal attack.

The Republicans were founded to abolish slavery. Pushed for the 15th Amendment--at gun point no less. Pushed for civil rights legislation for 100 years, and finally got it through in 1964 with a bit of help from Northern Democrats against Southern Democrats. Today, Republicans gerrymander Democrat districts to include more blacks so that not only will blacks be able to vote, but they can win and retain seats in Congress with black Congressman and Congresswomen. Maybe Virginia's black face Governor Northam will re-introduce Jim Crow. It certainly won't be Republicans doing it. Trump passed the First Step Act (prison sentencing reform), got funding for traditionally black colleges, and has driven black unemployment to the lowest levels in US history (largely by raiding workplaces that hire illegal aliens, and making sure those jobs go to blacks rather than illegal aliens).

Patrickov wrote:However, neither side seem interested in making arguments around events and points, and rather focus their arguments around personal attacks, with the pro-Republican / pro-Trump side even more so.

The Republican base won't tolerate the slanders and libels anymore. That's to say that they don't tolerate Republican politicians who simply take it on the chin. Most of the places blacks live and face problems with the government or police are run almost exclusively by the Democratic party. Blacks vote for the people who oppress them, and they are responsible for their own choices at the ballot box. The absurd idea that Republicans somehow come into areas governed by Democrats and somehow convince the police controlled by Democratic mayors to go out and get black people and so forth is positively ludicrous. The idea that the Voting Rights Act is somehow to protect Democratic districts from Republicans is similarly patently ludicrous. Democrats run the entire electioneering machine in those districts.

Rancid wrote:The OP seems to be implying the Democrats don't cheat. The reality is that Democrats simply need to learn how to cheat better.

They're great at it. The problem they are facing is that they cannot explain why police forces in cities controlled by Democrats for generations are somehow oppressing black citizens. Somehow this must be the fault of Republicans. If the number of polling places in areas utterly controlled by the Democratic party declines, somehow this must be because Republicans have convinced the Democrats who run the show in these vicinities to close polling places. It's frankly over the rainbow.

The Democrats are going to lose, because Trump promised and delivered on something the majority of voters have wanted for 20+ years. The Democratic reaction has been to promise everything to everybody on the one hand and bash Trump the rest of the time. The over the top response to Trump has been basically a loss of credibility for the Democratic party. @late simply cannot accept that Trump is likely to win because he is simply more popular in a larger swath of the country.

1) They try to rig elections. That is a fact. They flat out stole the recent Georgia election. That was as subtle as a sledgehammer hitting your face.

2) Alt-reality. Look at the several hundred pages in the VRA re-authorisation to start. Look at Red Map:
"While the term “gerrymander” has been around since the early years of the republic, computer technology and big money have allowed governors and legislatures to perfect the process in ways that have never before been imagined, according to Daley. The same technology that allows Amazon to figure out who buys what in any home on a given block now allows party officials to do the same with elections.

The operation, called REDMAP (Redistricting Majority Project), was never a secret. Karl Rove outlined what they planned to do in the Wall Street Journal...With control of many state governments in place, Republicans launched the second phase. Using sophisticated software such as Maptitude, GOP operatives crafted favorable districts filled with conservative white voters...What Daley makes clear is that ruthless partisan gerrymandering is not good for democracy"

You live in a fantasy world.

"Nearly 1,700 voting precincts in 13 states have been shut down since 2012, many in black or Latino communities, after a landmark court decision that removed federal oversight of local voting practices, according to a new report...and Georgia shut down 214, according to the report "Democracy Diverted: Polling Place Closures and the Right to Vote."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/09/12/report-court-ruling-caused-mass-voting-place-closures-southern-u-s/2272866001/

The report comes as Republican-led states impose a range of other restrictions, from shorter voting hours to photo-ID requirements. As turnout has surged in recent elections, voters in cities like Phoenix, Arizona and Atlanta, Georgia, have endured hours-long waits to cast their ballots.

Seven counties in Georgia now have only one polling place, the report found."
