Here's What We Know So Far About Russia's 2016 Meddling
U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia did not alter actual votes during the 2016 election. But Russians did target voter registration systems or state websites in at least 21 states before Election Day, fully accessed some states’ systems and stole hundreds of thousands of voters’ personal information.

The FBI alerted states to the threat about two months before the 2016 election when hackers accessed voter registration databases in Illinois and Arizona. Then in January 2017, the government issued its first report on election interference and blamed Russia for the hacks. However, DHS did not tell top state officials that their systems were scanned by hackers until nearly a year after the election.

In July of 2018, Mueller indicted 12 Russian nationals for their part in allegedly hacking into U.S. election systems.The prosecutors offered up more details, including saying that hackers stole information on 500,000 voters from an unnamed state’s website, including names, addresses, partial Social Security numbers, dates of birth and driver’s license numbers. Russians then visited the websites of counties in Georgia, Iowa and Florida, according to the indictment. The hackers also penetrated a voter registration software vendor, according to the indictment, and posed as the company sending malicious emails to several Florida election administrators.

In addition to all this, the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report said that in a small number of states, Russians “were able to gain access to restricted elements of election infrastructure” and “were in a position to, at a minimum, alter or delete voter registration data.”

As I understand it, all that the Russians did was to post on social media. There was no proof of any Russian hacking into the DNC server. That appears to be an inside job by someone that downloaded information by USB flash drive that found its way to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange or Guccifer 2.0. Julian Assange would never identify the individual, but did say he did not get it from the Russians. Apparently the individual was unhappy with the corruption in the DNC and decided to do what he did to expose it without facing repercussions for his action.

Today, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released the fifth and final volume in the Committee’s bipartisan investigation into Russia’s attempts to interfere with the 2016 U.S. elections. The final chapter, titled “Counterintelligence Threats and Vulnerabilities,” presents the Committee’s complete counterintelligence findings and recommendations after an extensive, three-year examination. Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), who as Chairman oversaw the Committee’s investigation, released the following statement:

“When this investigation began three years ago, Vice Chairman Warner and I agreed that the Senate Intelligence Committee’s core responsibility would be to follow the facts wherever they might lead. Throughout this process, Committee investigators have upheld their mission. They have gone to extraordinary and occasionally unexpected lengths in their pursuit of the facts in order to present these findings to the American people. I think he will win the election with little meddling/fraud. Also, I don't think us pofoers are in danger if Trump wins. We're small fish, they will go after so many other people before anyone here. Thus, you will have plenty of warning if the shit ever really does hit the fan.

Further, I would heed the advice @Drlee has given on your kids, you should raise them to set themselves up with the resources they need to leave this country. That is, get an education, get into a profession that earns well, and managed you finances like social security doesn't exist (that's what I do now). Thus, you will be in a better position to leave to another country, and take your skills with you so you can thrive there. This is the approach I'm taking, and this is what I'm teaching my kids. In fact, to aid in my kid's ability to do this, once they are out of college and established financially, I intend to sell my house and live in a small 1 bed room apartment with the wife. This way, we too are very mobile for anything. Also one of our retirement plans is to live in a different city 1-3 years, and move to the next (hence the small one bed room idea). So that plan lines up well with my retirement goals.

All of that said, at this point in time, even with Trump, I do not believe I will need to leave the US. Nonetheless, it's a good idea to set yourself up so that you can be mobile and adaptable.
