Given the poor performance of the Republican Party during these midterms, if the Republican Party wishes to remain a party, it will have to reject Trump and Trump-like candidates. Otherwise, the Republican Party will face its demise as a political party because they simply are not advocating anything voters want. The Republican Party needs to do some soul-searching and start advocating for freedom and respect for our elections and institutions. They must stop trying to undermine American democracy and free and fair elections.

Trump and Trump-like candidates cost the GOP the race:

Well duh, i wrote about this since Trump was still president that this is going to happen. :excited:

It is not that easy though since a decent chunk of the Republican party attached its fortunes to Trump. So GOP is kinda screwed.

Trump has locked up a significant portion of the GOP base because he speaks to their grievances like a grandpa sundowning during Thanksgiving dinner and reliving his fondest memories of shouting slurs at Freedom Bussers. There are just some people who see a man shouting about toilets and and how they don't flush well that tickles the grievance part of the Rightwing mind.

Trump isn't going to accept any deal that doesn't make him exorbitantly rich and also strokes his ego with him being seen as some kind of winning kingmaker. Sure, some people turned away from Trump when he got the loser stink on him. But he has convinced a signifcant number of GOP voters that voting doesn't matter, and they are of the mindset that Trump can't fail, he can only be failed.

It's a bit like how the Simpsons is now written by people who grew up watching it, so it's all fanfic of "What if the Simpsons were in Game of Thrones?" The people who grew up, or more accurately grew old, watching Fox News and having their brains turn to mush are now the people writing the conspiracy narratives. And boy, are those conspiracies not as good as they were during the golden years when Conan O'Brien was head writer.

IT motivates a decent chunk of the republican base. It probably helps win primaries and rise money, though not necessarily actual elections. But I always a bit pessimistic about rhese things and always a bit cautious about people proclaiming trends that sound like good news to me. We live in interesting times.

It does seem that the ttally loons are not winning as much as they were , or looked likely to. But Trump-ism nit played out yet.

We may gave to endure it reborn as Elon Musk for president in 2026 (?!!).
