Holy sh!t -- Let's talk about big union news. If you Union bust you lose & get the Union.

The US Labor Relations Board announced a new policy, that if a corrp uses unfair or illegal methods to stop or interfere with a Union having an election to see if that Union will represent the workers, then there will be no election and the Union will be recognized as the workers' representative by the Gov.

Beau says that corps will hate this and fight it.

This is a total reversal of 42 years of US Gov. policy. We will see if it stands. And if it does, we will see if strong Unions can reduce the insane rate of profits that corps have taken during the Neo-liberal policy era. IMHO, it was crazy for corps to seek to increase their rate of profits forever. This had to end sometime. IMO, the corps went too far, far too far. And, now they will reap the Worl Wind, that will result.

I think the Left is overly optimistic and very ignorant if they think tweaking some of the laws and policies concerning unions will make much of a big difference.

You can't bring in all the immigration you want (especially from desperate poorer countries), fueling high rates of population growth, and then not expect that to have a profound effect on the labor market, putting a downward pressure on both wages and working conditions.

It's pure stupidity to think you can solve all the problems resulting from that simply through organized unions.

In many cases what immigration resulted in was not the competition for jobs but rather the elimination of smaller businesses, with large corporations which exploited immigrant labor displacing them.
In such a situation, unions might not get you what you want, or at least will not be able to take things back to "the good old days". Part of the problem may be the very existence of many of those big corporations in the first place. (thinking of Walmart, for example, or how family farms got replaced by large Agro corporations employing low-paid migrant workers)
