China’s displeasure
US anti-ballistic missile defense system THAAD designed to protect U.S. troops and their allies. There are such systems in GUAM and Hawaii. The Pentagon accuses the DPRK's missile threat; therefore both of them are in combat readiness. In addition, Washington also deploys THAAD complexes to protect against North Korean missiles in the Republic of Korea. The Defence Department of the USA and South Korea in 2016 agreed on a missile defense system THAAD on South Korean territory. It must put into operation by the end of 2018.
Moreover US side sped up the deployment of system. On 7 March, 2017 the command of United States Forces Korea has begun deploying THAAD complex on South Korean territory, and on April 23, military trucks transported the blocks of the new system to the Seongju province in the south of Soul. On May 1, THAAD was put on combat duty to intercept North Korea’s missiles.
Amid heightened tension between Soul and Pyongyang, the U.S. and South Korea militaries held in March – April annual large-scale drills Key Resolve in response to provocations from North Korea. At the end of April the U.S. Navy strike group led by the nuclear aircraft carrier "Carl Vinson" and a submarine moved toward Korean Peninsula. On April 29 in the Japan Sea the joint U.S.-South Korean naval exercises was held.
North Korea sees annual large-scale US joint military exercises as "a direct threat to its security". On April 25, the anniversary of the Korean people's army, Pyongyang opened the largest in the history of DPRK artillery fire toward Japan. And on the morning of April 29, the North Korean military conducted another launch of a ballistic missile. Thus, US have only exacerbated the conflict on the Korean Peninsula.
The deployment of THAAD system in South Korea caused dissatisfaction of China. Beijing claims that THAAD system can be used for surveillance of Chinese territory. The deployment of American missiles in Seongju creates a system capable of monitoring the Chinese tests of ground and sea missiles in the North-East, and the Bohai Bay. Moreover, the radar can "see" not only China, but also parts of Mongolia and Russia. In addition, there are concerns that the U.S. will use the crisis around North Korea to create a global system of missile defense. On approval of Beijing, the confrontation between Washington and Pyongyang, ultimately, would lead to military superiority of the US in the region.
The Chinese government demands Washington and Seoul eliminate THAAD complexes on the territory of ROK. According to the official representative of the Chinese foreign Ministry Geng Shuang, Beijing will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests. Chinese authorities have already initiated a radical modernization of the armed forces with a focus on technological innovation and the development of naval capabilities. On April 26, it was carried out the launching of the first Chinese domestic aircraft carrier, however, second in the arsenal of Beijing. In addition, China intends to develop and test new types of weapons in response to the deployment of THAAD system. May 9, the Defence Ministry of China said that the Chinese military tested a new rocket model during the exercises in the Bohai Sea. According to military analyst Li Jie, Beijing could use its Dongfeng missiles, short- and middle-range ballistic missiles, for the destruction of US missile system in ROK. In addition, Beijing could use an electromagnetic pulse warheads, and technologies of creation of electronic interference to destroy THAAD system.
Thus, the deployment of US missile system in ROK is destabilizing factor, because it undermines the existing military balance in the region, threatening the security of neighboring countries. At the same time, the US solves their problems under the pretext of nuclear deterrence. The North Korean nuclear threat is the perfect excuse for increasing US military presence in the region. This development will return to Washington trust his allies, and therefore will weaken the position of China.
Because of North Korean pro
blems is extremely dangerous for China and for the region as a whole, Beijing is in favour of reducing tension on the Korean Peninsula and a return to dialogue and consultations on the North Korean nuclear issue.
As stated by the representative of the Diplomatic Department of China Geng Shuang, sides on the Korean Peninsula should take responsibility and make progress in the restoration of peaceful dialogue. According to him, China has always regarded peace negotiations as the only practical and feasible approach to achieving the denuclearization, peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea is suspending the deployment of a controversial missile defence system while the government examines its environmental impact.
The rollout of the US-funded Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system (Thaad) may be on hold for a year.
Four recently arrived launchers will not be deployed, an official said. Two already installed will stay in place.
Thaad aims to protect South Korea from the North's missiles, and has been criticised at home and by China.

Probably the OP's article is slightly dated. The BBC reported earlier this month that Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is no longer operational in South Korea and the new Korean president sees the missile defence system an unnecessary provocation toward North Korea and China. President Moon Jae-in further proposed to co-host the PyeongChang Olympics with North Korea, which is his natural ideological tilt as a liberal human rights lawyer. Chinese President Xi Jinping was the first foreign leader who talked with President Moon Jae-in back in May and he clearly sides with China on the THAAD issue.
