Korean “threat”
Nowadays the most serious problem of Japanese foreign affairs is relations with North Korea. The main problem is nuclear test kept by North Korea.
Recently, the number of missile launches from the territory of North Korea has increased, and this fact causes relevant reaction among the heads of different countries. The most tough position is taken by Japan, because all the launches are directed towards the territory of Japan. After the last nuclear test, which was carried out by North Korea prior to G20 summit, the prime-minister of Japan Shinzo Abe made tough and ambiguous statement, urging the leaders of Russia, China and the US to take more hard-line stance on North Korea, and may be impose tougher sanctions.
During the meetings within the framework of the G20 summit, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President Donald Tramp repeatedly discussed the problem of North Korea's nuclear tests. The Japanese Prime Minister called on China and Russia to tighten sanctions against North Korea, in addition, he said that the United States and Japan intend to redouble their efforts to prevent similar incidents in the framework of the Security Treaty between Japan and the United States during the dialogue. The leaders of two countries hope to pull together global community and demonstrate to North Korea, that nuclear tests kept by North Korea are menacing and illegal, and it will entail rather tough consequences by their actions. In addition, during the meetings of Shinzo Abe with Vladimir Putin within the framework of G20 summit, the Japanese Prime Minister noted that Russia make a figure in resolving this issue. Moreover, Japanese government calls for world society to cut off oil and foreign exchanges shipment to North Korea to prevent future nuclear test.
It is worth noting that the measures proposed by the Japanese leadership can affect not only on the nuclear tests, but in general the economic situation in North Korea. However, the United States and Japan adopt a tough stance and think that the imposition of sanctions against North Korea is the only possible way for creating the necessary conditions for dialogue on this issue. Whereas, North Korean government declare that the development of the nuclear program is the right of the sovereign state to strengthen the defense capabilities to rebel controversial policy of the US. In addition, North Korea hasn’t started broad scale aggression more than 60 years, and all the statements on North Korean politics had only military rhetoric. Japan and the US are lobbying their interests in Asian-Pacific region, covering their actions by suppression of North Korean nuclear problem. Moreover, both countries aren’t satisfied with strengthening of North Korea in the region, because that fact can cause a number of problems, also in military and economic sphere. At this point, leaders of Japan and the US are trying to convince world leaders in the necessity of tough sanctions against North Korea by all possible means, both in the framework of G20 summit and the UN organization, The Japanese government find that development and test of ICBM by North Korea is direct threat to Japanese security, but according to defense agencies of the US and Russia, North Korea carried out the test of intermediate range missile, which cause no threat to Japan.
Taking all of this into account, it is worth noting that the position assumed by the Tokyo doesn’t conduce the de-escalation of tension on the Korean Peninsula, but conversely сan cause more decisive actions or even a military conflict in the APR.

From the Japanese perspective, the coming of the Trump administration is a godsend. The international community finally took notice of the danger posed by the hermit regime and America is ready to do something about it. The Bush administration took North Korea off the terrorism list, which was one of the biggest mistakes made by President Bush along with invading Iraq.

North Korea is just another 'big lie'. The news (and our politicians publicly) treats them as if they are acting on their own. What North Korea does or does not do is totally dictated by what China and Russia want. It is 'impolite' to directly address this publicly. Is there any doubt that economic pressure alone from Russia and China would destroy the regime? Just another proxy confrontation. Nothing can be done about North Korea because North Korea is a pawn protected by two queens.
