The influence of American culture on Japanese society
The defeat of imperial Japan in the Second World War and the prolonged American occupation led to the fact that the influence of the United States in the Land of the Rising Sun increased many times. The whole life of the Japanese, the entire political, economic, social structure of the country quickly became Americanized. Along with this, aiming to turn Tokyo into its ally, Washington sought to impose this country on its ideology, its culture and way of life, propagating the achievement of personal happiness at any cost through the orientation to the subconscious and instincts-the thirst for possession, the sense of ownership, the cult of success and strong personality.
America began to influence the world outlook, lifestyle, hobbies and culture of the Japanese, starting with the fact that Japan was isolated from the outside world. Then the Americans introduced a new constitution specially written for Japan, conducted a women's emancipation and created Japanese trade unions. The old Japanese education system was replaced by the American one. And every Japanese prefecture had to have at least one university. Thus, in Japan, the Americans carried out the most real cultural revolution, thanks to which there have been changes in such areas as education, sports, food culture, music, fashion, mass culture of anime and manga.
At present, the "Americanization" of Japan has acquired a huge scope and has spread not only in breadth, but also deep into consciousness, leading to a change in the norms of behavior and consumption, established perceptions and orientations, having a great influence on the way of life of the Japanese, especially young people. After all, adolescents are not able to distinguish between good and evil, they do not have critical thinking, and everything that is seen on the screen is perceived as an object for imitation and they can not fully bear responsibility for their actions. As a result, the discipline of young people began to disintegrate in Japan. They began to follow the example of Americans and began to strive for pleasures and satisfying their desires, making this the main goal of their lives.
Today "anime" is considered as a Japanese concept. And meanwhile the word "anime" is just a Japanese shortened English word "animation". The impact of the anime on the population of Japan is a wide range of social problems. Today, there are millions of hikikomori, antisocial citizens who have problems with the psyche and leading an extremely closed way of life (they have no work, children, friends, normal communication). Japan occupies one of the first places in the world in terms of the number of suicides per unit of population. Most families in modern Japan have only one child or do not have children at all.
The Japanese population is noticeably falling, and this trend is only increasing. The reasons for this are in the American mass culture, which has had its pernicious influence on modern Japanese culture. However, Japanese social scientists argue that Japan is considered to be civilized to the same extent as the West, and therefore most Japanese are convinced that Japan is a member of the Western community.
