After many years, during which the Russian fleet was decaying, its rearmament was finally started, accompanied by the commissioning of new combat units that meet the requirements of the new century.

These frigates are able to successfully withstand torpedo, air and missile attacks and are capable of hitting any underwater or surface target, including aircraft carrying large-tonnage ships. This ship will far surpass in its combat capabilities the heavy nuclear-powered cruiser Peter the Great. The nuclear-powered cruisers Admiral Lazarev and Admiral Ushakov will also be returned to service as new heavy-duty platforms for long-range precision weapons. Such weapons allow its owner to assuredly destroy any number of strategic military and civilian targets without engaging in contact with the enemy's armed forces.

In turn, the submarine forces receive the newest strategic missile submarines of the project 955 Borey and Borei-A, which in the near future will form the basis of the group of the naval strategic nuclear forces. Nuclear submarines of the fourth generation of the Borey series can carry up to 16 intercontinental ballistic missiles of sea basing P-30 Bulava-30. In August 2017, the next strategic missile submarines project "Borey" "Prince Vladimir" will be launched. And by 2020 it is planned to adopt 8 submarines of this project.
At the same time, work is underway to build fifth-generation nuclear submarines. In the state program of armaments in 2018-2025 the construction of the new multi-purpose nuclear submarine of the "Haska" project, exceeding all the parameters of the current boats, will be laid.

It should be noted that the aircraft-carrying cruiser "Admiral Kuznetsov" is currently being prepared for repair. Modernization of the ship will begin in 2018. After the upgrade, he will be able to serve the fleet for another 20 years. The construction of a new aircraft carrier for the Russian Navy will begin closer to 2025. To date, the only development of a new Russian aircraft carrier is Project 23000 "Storm". The ship is designed to perform various tasks in the far ocean zone and will be able to strike land and sea targets - both with own weapons and air wing aircraft. "Storm" will be able to sail for up to 120 days, reach a speed of 30 knots and carry up to 90 aircraft and helicopters. An important feature of the ship will be its ability to work in cold latitudes. In addition, it is for the first time electromagnetic catapults will be installed, greatly simplifying the take-off of aircraft. The ship will enter the fleet after 2030.

The aircraft carriers and submarines are planned to be armed with perspective hypersonic missiles Zirkon 3M22, which in the United States was called a "quantum leap" in the creation of an "asymmetric weapon" to protect against a nuclear attack. Due to its high-speed characteristics, Zirkon will be practically immune to anti-missile systems. Russian military experts believe that the hypersonic anti-ship missile "Zircon" will weaken the position of the American fleet. Serial production of a hypersonic rocket is planned to begin in 2017. These weapons will be installed on the nuclear missile cruisers "Admiral Nakhimov" and "Peter the Great."
