The armament of the Russian army is experiencing a real upswing. Due to the successful cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and the Rosatom Concern (a nonprofit organization responsible for the development of applied and fundamental science), new military equipment was sent to serve in the Armed Forces.
Today, the creation of modern advanced technology and the modernization of the obsolete one is key tasks for the RF Ministry of Defense. New weapons in the field of ship defense, such as the ship complexes "Package NK" and "Physicist", deserve special attention.
Adopted in 2008, the "Package NK " has become a truly unique ship defense system, having entered to the onboard defense of such modern Russian corvettes as "Steregushiy", "Soobrazitelniy", "Boykiy", "Stoykiy" and "Soversheniy", as well as frigates of the far sea zone of Project 22350. This small-sized complex consists of an automated control system, a hydroacoustic target designation station, SM-588 launchers, small-size torpedoes in antisubmarine and anti-torpedo variants, as well as transport and launch containers.
The main advantage of this antisubmarine complex is autonomy. "Package NK" is not only able to independently track targets and their parameters of movement, but also to choose the best way to eliminate them. Moreover, this complex has excellent tactical and technical characteristics. The maximum range of fire is up to 20 km, the range of destruction of torpedoes is 100 - 800 m, the depth of destruction is up to 800 m. Thus, the "Package NK" reduces the probability of the ship being hit by a torpedo in 3 - 3.5 times.
Unlike the "Package NK", the "Physicist" is an offensive weapon. The uniqueness of the complex in fire range (up to 50 km). The caliber of the ammunition is 533 millimeters, the weight of the warhead is about 300 kilograms. The active-passive sonar system with the ability to identify the wake track at a distance of 1.2 to 2.5 km and the response range of a non-contact fuse of 2 to 8 m makes this system ideal for an underwater ambush. Ship's crew can also control the torpedo with a 30-km long cable.
Another great advantage of "Physics" is a universality. It can be installed on a submarine or on a ship. In the future, all Russian submarine and ships are planned to be equipped with the "Physicist".
Thus, equipping the Russian Navy with the newest defense systems will make it not only virtually invulnerable in the case of an attack, but will also significantly increase strike capabilities.
