Thats:

Moscow - 16.7 million people
Istanbul - 15 million people
Paris - 11 million people
London - 10.5 million people

Right now only Paris remains.

This shows drastically how little the EU still really represents Europe as a whole, doesnt it ? Three of the most important european countries (Russia, Britain, Turkey) arent actually part of it.

Istanbul hasn't been part of Europe on cultural and historical grounds for well-over six hundred years now. Geographically it's literally situated on the border between Europe and Asia. And Moscow isn't traditionally considered a European city either. As for London, blame Berlin. And Paris is gradually sliding into the direction of Istanbul.

Ah, another closet imperialist showing showing his true colors.

The centrally ruled empire needs a big and powerful capital that dominates the rest of the domain and sucks prosperity from the regions. The federal EU limits the power and wealth of the center to spread its political institutions and wealth across the whole of Europe.

Germany is the country with the strongest economy in Europe, yet it has the most impoverished capital city. Instead, you'll find internationally competitive industries in the regions and even in small villages. Even though Berlin is far behind Paris and London in terms of cultural events, no country has such a rich cultural scene as Germany with quality opera houses, concert halls, orchestras, etc., in most of its regional centers.

The empire, on the other hand, is dysfunctional because it creates regional inequalities, like London impoverishes the de-industrialized North of the country. It is no surprise that the three wannabe empires of Europe (the British, the Russian and the Ottoman) should fall into this dysfunctional pattern or regional inequality.

:?:

Yes it is. Where do you think Moscow is? Asia, Africa, Australasia, the Americas?

Since when was Russia part of Europe? Never. Urkaine was.

Turkey is not part of Europe either. (Fun fact is that it straddles both Asia and Europe so no maps agree)

This has little to do with how the EU represents Europe, either.

If you aren't going to work, you should at least go to school.

And so should you, as you are all wrong. Russia is largely pretty much it's own damn continent in size.

It's in fucken Northern Eurasia and therefore is both European and Asian (borders in both sub-territories).... Hence Eurasia.

It has a right to belong in whichever of the two it chooses to belong to as it technically is bordering both.

Bring back the term Eurasia if you wish to be politically fully correct. Or else recognise that Russia is in both regions.

Fact is all that seperates it from the United States(Alaska) is a small stretch of water(Bering Strait).....

@colliric

We're talking about culture, not geography. Russia, no matter how much mental gymnastics you do, is more European than China or Thailand.

@Zionist Nationalist

Do you even know where or what Islamabad is or did you just use it because it has the terms "Islam" and "bad" in the same word? Either way, you're remarkably petty.

That's partly my point. Russia is the only country with the right to choose culturally and Politically which it is closest to.

Geographically it borders both sub-regions and is a stone's throw from the USA's northernmost state.

@colliric

No, it can't. Russia, in culture, geography, and political philosophy, is European. Saying that Russia can choose to be East Asian is like saying Australia can choose to be Indonesian just because they're geographically close to one another.

Let's go through the list shall we?

1. Russia was united and created under the idea that it's ruler was descended to the Roman Emperor. If legitimacy for your government can come from the Roman Empire than you're certainly European
2. Russia's major religion is Orthodox Christianity, a religion it adopted from the Byzantine or Eastern Roman Empire. If your religion is Roman Christianity, then you're certainly European.
3. The major political ideology which changed the entire socio-economic structure of Russia in the early 20th century was created by a German philosopher with a particularly European audience in mind.

You could make the argument that Russia is "East European" as a culture argument, but Russia certainly isn't East Asian and is an integral part of Europe.
