Who thinks Sweden will leave the EU? Looks like the Sweden Democrats are becoming a force to be reconned with.

Even if the establishment parties do the national unity thing to exclud the SD, nationalist Swedes still have options. Like getting candidates into EU politics. Maybe the Swedes need a Nigel Farrage of their own to send to the EU parliament to stir up trouble.

I don't know really but Sweden like the UK never flipped their own currency for the euro so leaving the EU would be relatively less of a headache than for some countries. It's just one less barrier to climb over to get out.

Sweden and the euro

The polling for joining the eurozone is very low in Sweden but it is something the EUcrats expect to happen eventually. That's a point of conflict that could precipitate a Swexit in addition to the migration issue. Also Sweden's migration issues are mostly self-inflicted rather than something the EU forced on them.

Highly unlikely over the coming years, Swedes are at heart cowards and will only follow the mainstream opinion cautiously in every case.

Only the Hard-Right and the Hard-Left are for a referendum on the question (combined support of 24-25%, good luck getting them on agreeing on anything else).

Sweden could fix their migration issues really easily without closing the borders. JUST STOP SUBSIDISING IT! Sweden has a pretty harsh climate and an obscure native language so it is not an attractive place for migrants on its natural merits, it only became so because the Swedish authorities basically offered to pay jizya to them. To fix this just stop paying them and they'll stop coming. The ones already there will leave too if the swedes can stop subsidising them. This is where the nordic model can be used to push out migrants rather than suck them in, because who wants to pay crushingly high taxes if you don't get any benefits? An issue is that many have already acquired citizenship and stripping citizenship is not a particularly acceptable solution by mainstream political standards. There are solutions to this issue too though.

Doesn’t Sweden mean ‘swine land’? At least that is what a Norwegian told me.

Why would any self respecting Muslim want to live in pig land?

I speak Norwegian and I have a working understanding of Swedish and Danish, and no, "Sweden" nor "Sverige" doesn't mean pig or even land. The German word "Reich" is related in meaning (without any fascist connotation) to the Norwegian and Swedish words "riks" and "rige" and "rike" which can translate as realm, nation (in the broadest sense), empire/kingdom, etc.

The Norwegian who told you that was messing with you. :) They can be a duplicitous people at times.

Vad fasiken säger du, din hädare? Ingen, speciellt inte en billig fårknullande kopia av en engelsman, tar mitt dyrbara modersmål ned i samma smuts som.... EN DANSK! :excited:

There is only one true non-native swedish speaker that is worth a damn... The late honourable Colonel Muhammed Ghaddafi!

Muammar Gaddafi speaks Swedish!

Why would anyone think they will? The Sweden Democrats underperformed expectations actually, that of their own especially I guess. They got enough support and seats (at the expense of the Moderate Party) to crumble bloc politics, though.

Swexit just sounds wrong, it sounds like some sort of cross over between a campy 80s exercise video and a porno.

In a word: Swedish.

Lets hope so, the (((Euocrat centre right elite))) can be allowed to stay in Brussels and have Belgium if they like  but the rest of Europe needs to be free of this monstrosity.

I'm pretty sure I know the difference. Swedish has that charming, "Jag vill krama en Mumin" vibe, while Dutch is much more, well, Dutch: "Ik heb seks met tulpen en windmolens. Help me deze klompen in mijn reet te duwen. Clip-clop, clip-clop."

Well, dutch is a germanic language, if I remember correctly. And indeed, as a german, I can guess a bit what you might possibly have said. Its much like plattdeutsch in this respect.

I cant do that with french, english, or any other language. Certainly not swedish or norwegian, which are in my understanding completely separate and quite complicated languages.

IIRC Tolkien based the grammar of his elven languages on scandinavian languages, exactly because that grammar is so complex and the tolkian elves are supposed to live a thousand years and thus are expected to have a very complex language.

Scandinavian languages are actually germanic languages excepting Finnish which has a very different history. Dutch is a west germanic language (like English) while the Scandinavian languages are classed as north germanic. All the germanic languages have a common source and many common words albeit with altered pronunciation.

I believe Finnish is a Uralic language right? Related to the likewise odd Hungarian language?

I remember reading an interesting theory on the relation between Ural and Altaic language families one time, a pretty cool concept. Not widely regarded now, but I think it has some strong arguments in its favor.
