You seem oblivious to the possibility that they might identify themselves as Germans, and that they have a stake in Germany as a whole, and the German people as a whole.
It is obvious that immigration matters to these people, why else would they vote for an anti-immigration party? This being the case, and if there is almost no immigration to the region, then it follows that they have opinions that do not end at regional boundaries.
You seem oblivious to the fact that there is almost no immigration going on into their region. Ellecting an anti-immigration party makes almost as much sense as electing a party which is concerned with the level of siberian tigers in their region.
