I am curious. The modern liberal philosophy is facing it’s first major setback since it’s acceptance. Every election is scrutinized attempting to see the future.
Are you fighting for survival? Are you convinced things will set back ‘right’ by elections in the near future?
Do the DNC arguments contain a sustainable platform and base?
Do you need to abandon identity politics?
I believe your true gut reactions will tell us a lot about what the future holds.

Edit: I asked too many questions. I am just looking for gut reactions on the future of liberalism from liberals. Addressing my other questions is simply for explanation of your feelings if you choose to elaborate.

Basically this. Trump has done real and lasting damage to the Republican party amoung it's suburban base and swing voters swing against the party in power like they always do. He has flubbed a great many things a stronger less unpopular president could have done with his party in control of all the government. Obamacare looks like it's with us forever. He's damaged the image of populist economic and immigration positions.

All in all liberalism is turning a stunning loss into a long term win.

Have you never heard of this thing called socialism? The Soviet Union? Maybe the Cold War?

Mike you do make a good point that Trump is not best for "populist" image; However, populist are demonized in media enough by opponents that I do not know if he really makes that much of a difference in the long run. People who are already populist in their disposition will be able to view things rationally and will still continue to be populist. Regardless even if trump screws up badly giving the opposition in future the argument of, "Look we elected populist Trump and things went badly". Populist will still vote for someone who can best take what they desire into governance. Most populist knew that Trump is the best chance they have even though they disliked his image.

In terms of democrats winning election in the future, it will happen, but democrats will really have to evolve their platform adopting to changing times, if they can not then in long term they stand to lose. Especially when the younger generation will grow up realizing how they were lied to and by whom. Take me for example, I know if I was back to being 18-25 I would vote for Clinton and Bernie (Democrat) in the US elections.

It is all similar pattern in western world at the moment. The establishment has the younger vote, academia, middle/upper class and minorities. Populist are older and working class white. At some point they will loose the younger vote as the youth will finally grow up. Realizing the reality of things outside of collage campus and that the fantasy that was fed to them by the academic institutions and media is not real.

The establishment also stands to loose the middle class vote if another economic crisis happens or in some way the middle class will see that the system is not working for them any longer. This is I believe why primary middle class votes for establishment parties because they are afraid of uncertainties of populism.

@One Degree

I assume you're thinking of me when you wrote this, so I'll just say it: I'm not a liberal in the american sense. I'm a classical liberal that believes in freedom, property, rights for all races. I just know bullshit from both sides when I see it and call it out.

One Degree wrote:Are you fighting for survival?

Alot of people are fighting for survival: Alt-right thinks they're being genocide(lol), Blacks are fighting to not be genocide by American society. Republicans are in full panic mode cause they're losing trump won areas to Democrats. Old Dog Democrats are being replace by progressives. NRA is fighting to be relevant to their donors and brand name. Students are fighting to not be shot by other students(white manly). Trump is fighting to survive his first term(which he might even if Dems take back everything and they might). School shooting survivors are fighting to live in a safe environment and not being called Nazis by the right(while the right just turn down bill condemning actual Nazis in Tennessee.)

One Degree wrote:Are you convinced things will set back ‘right’ by elections in the near future?

Nope, even if trump and republicans are gone.

One Degree wrote:Do the DNC arguments contain a sustainable platform and base?

Nope, but they'll win anyway. The argument is that they're not the republicans.

One Degree wrote:Do you need to abandon identity politics?

Will the right abandon identity politics? Will the republicans/conservatives tear down those KKK statues they keep bashing Blacks on the head who are Democrats.

@Decky What you think of Neo-ludditism, Decky? I notice alot of USSR lovers have an aesthetic culture and thinks automation threatens workers means of production.

Are you on crack? Socialists like industrialisation and machines and five year plans. Don't get me wrong Ned Lud and his machine breakers were working class heroes but there is no room for that shit today.

Yea, but they were manning the machines, they were toiling the fields. They want that old school work ethic back.

I do some weed once in a while.

That's not how tankies sees it.
#14903471
:eh: I can assure you that us tankies are big fans of machines.

Cheeky Joe Stalin wrote:Communism is Soviet power plus the electrification of the whole country, since industry cannot be developed without electrification.

Machines are great.

There is always room for some good old fashioned bludgeoning with an entrenching tool though. ;) It seems to be the method of debate that the right understand best.

Work only sucks because we are working to make some idle twat probably descended from the Norman aristocracy even richer, when the working class are working for ourselves with someone like Joe Stalin the gentle father of nations at the helm it will be fine.

Work just sucks, some people like it I guess, but for me it's always been the shit I do to pay the bills. I don't get any satisfaction from it at all. I can't wait until the robots take all the jobs. Fuck the toil, I want a life of leisure.
