Skinster, it was obvious almost right from the beginning that the coup d'etat was energized with those fabulous Western Lies that we're so good at. Only now that the coup is leading to MONEY_for_OLIGARCHS, it is safe to reveal the LIE. The gullible crowd has already moved on to its next lie.

Lies-from-oligarchs are meant to be believed. It's what loyal citizens do. They believe the lies they're told.

After absorbing the lies about WMDs in Iraq, Syrian chemical weapons, Russian election rigging in the USA, etc., we're still waiting for our next lie like a panting dog holding a stick in its mouth.

I know this, just wanted to point out how people like blackjack, JohnRawls, Rugoz, rancid etc. were wrong on their regime-support-y ways, yet again. But you're right, they'll move on to the next lies.

@skinster @QatzelOk

This is why I won't cry when the nations doing all these immoral and terrible coups de etat lose power to other competitors for the power hungry sweepstakes.

When the rah-rah-rah pom-pom shaking patriots lose their nation to shills and greedy immoral leaders and the elite who jump on the bandwagon....I won't be shedding a damn tear for them.

You never gave a damn about the Latin American sincere and real democracies yet you want me to worry about your lies and fake Empires full of total lies and distortions? No, I won't.

They deserve to sink to the bottom of the ocean for their total lack of respect for other societies' needs for a better political life.

As you said, this was obvious from the beginning, but I found myself angrier than usual at the NYT's tepid "my bad" article. The simple fact is the initial narrative is the one that has taken hold with idiot liberals, and this weak mea culpa bullshit has come far too late to do any good. The fascists have consolidated power now.

So, just in case it still needs to be said: Fuck the New York Times and fuck anyone who treats it as an honest or trustworthy paper.

That story is an old hat. The statistical analysis of the OAS report was criticized by CEPR last year already.

That doesn't address or negate the other points in the OLS report however, in fact the analysis only makes up the "clues" part in the report:

It's important to "keep the lie alive" by complicating the story and changing some of the details.

I love that despite almost a year of economic terrorism and gaslighting by the US government, NYT and WaPo, it seems Bolivians still haven't warmed up to #Girlboss Jeannine Añez. She's polling in a distant third place while MAS has more than 40% and is 15 points ahead of second place. 8)

I had an interesting experience with Latin-American false consciousness yesterday that I would like to share in this thread.

I occasionally animate outdoor beach volleyball at multiple-court beach volley center. Yesterday, I had a very shy Peruvian woman (Carolina) - living in Montreal for a year to learn French - as a new player. She teamed up with a guy from Colombia (Antonio), and the pair signed up to play "mixed doubles" with two other teams who had monopolized a public court for two hours alone.

Before Carolina went off to that court to play, we spoke in Spanish for a bit. And in French. We ended up talking about Hugo Chavez, and I expressed my admiration for him, while Carolina- wealthy middle-class Latina - told me that she is on the opposite side of Hugo Chavez, Evo Morales, etc. That she can't stand them. Hates them.

I didn't continue the conversation past this point, since I don't know her very well, like talking to her, and we both need to learn the other's language. But if I had, I would have stressed how much these leaders have helped those who have been crushed by the elite in their own countries. That Chavez was elected mainly to counter the effects of the elite's bullying and monopolization of resources.

Anyway, Caro and Antonio went off to play with some players who consider themselves elite and refuse to share with others, and they rejected her and Antonio at first glance. Tried to "bounce" her and Antonio off the courts. I had to make an intervention to force the winning team to play a game against her and Antonio. (Public courts!) These so-called elite teams weren't happy sharing a public space (!!) with ... the public.

I forced them to let the 'new people' play one game. The other team was nasty the entire time they played, and made Carolina and Antonio "feel like garbage" for trying to play a game of beach on the one court that is dedicated to mixed 2 x 2. When they finished their game, they looked traumatized and humiliated. It wasn't just the loss, it was the poor treatment and lack of opportunity or welcome that they had received from the other players (Carolina reported this to me after the game).

For a fleeting 20 minutes, Carolina got to taste what it's like to be on the other side, to be the marginalized person who needs a leader to have an opportunity to play a game, and I had to play a mini "Hugo Chavez" just to get her and Antonio onto the court.

Karma is much more scientific than we are led to believe.

Tainari88 wrote:You know the Unabomber was a loner and socially inadequate, but he was also the recipient of intense psychological torture at a very young age while he studied at Harvard University. He had enormous difficulty cultivating human connections. He had no girlfriends and was a virgin at the age of 53 when they imprisoned him for life. He was a genius with an IQ score of 167. A math professor at University of California at Berkeley. He was a very very interesting man. He said that the industrial revolution and industrialization was a failure. He lived off the grid with no running water or electricity in some cabin in a tiny town in Montana named Lincoln. In some tiny house/shed he had built to perfect mathematical proportions with his younger brother David.

I won't be visiting Lincoln, but I've been through the town. There's not much too it, but not too far from there are some of the most beautiful valleys. So did you read the Unabomber Manifesto? I think he had some very interesting things to say, particularly about over-socialized people.

Tainari88 wrote:The American middle classes have completely false and unrealistic expectations of what kinds of challenges people face in other nations and other parts of the world.

What makes you think that the American middle classes have any expectations of people in other nations?

Tainari88 wrote:It doesn't agree with Judeo-Christian consumerism.

Wanting to have it both ways again. Jesus is anti-wealth, and somehow consumerism is Judeo-Christian?

QatzelOk wrote:Western citizens are like: "We don't care. This doesn't affect us negatively, and might even bring down the cost of the electric cars we are being told will save us from extinction, or something."

Western citizens are more like, "Bolivia? Is that contagious? What are the symptoms?"

skinster wrote:I know this, just wanted to point out how people like blackjack, JohnRawls, Rugoz, rancid etc. were wrong on their regime-support-y ways, yet again.

My tongue-in-cheek OP was that this is what the CIA wants to do to Trump, but they are having trouble because he is too popular with his base. I'm not a big fan of Evo Morales, because I'm not a fan of socialism as such. However, to the extent that this was a neoliberal coup, it doesn't bother me at all to see it going wobbly for them.

Tainari88 wrote:You never gave a damn about the Latin American sincere and real democracies yet you want me to worry about your lies and fake Empires full of total lies and distortions?

You realize that a lot of Latin American democracy was fomented by the machinations of the British Empire to thwart Napoleon when he put his brother on the throne of Spain, right?

Wow. It sounds like the normal Americans that you know are even dumber than the normal Canadians that I know.

And yet we have come to remarkably different conclusions regarding democracy and popular democracy. Perhaps this is why. Perhaps your experience with normal Americans has convinced you that the "animal domestication" form of government is best.
