This video is a national broadcast on Feb 4 2012, to celebrate the failed military coup Chavez tried in 1992. It´s several hours long, with a lot of bullshit and strutting, so it´s not worth watching the whole video. But try watching at 1 hour and 28 minutes for about five minutes. Is that what you call goose stepping?

Or like it´s shown in this video?

Goose-stepping is just one particular way of marking time. Those countries which do not use that method, use other markers like the arm-swing motion to mark it instead.

For example, Britain and Japan and India all swing a white-gloved arm up to 90 degrees high, and do authoritative stamping at every stationary turn, to produce the same kind of intimidation. For some reason Orwell never comments on that.

I agree with Rei and think that Orwell (whom I respect to a certain extent) is being silly here.

Orwell wrote:Why is the goose-step not used in England? There are, heaven knows, plenty of army officers who would be only too glad to introduce some such thing. It is not used because the people in the street would laugh. Beyond a certain point, military display is only possible in countries where the common people dare not laugh at the army.

I mean c'mon did people dared to laugh at marching British army in her vast colonies?

And some countries goose step Soviet style. This is what emerged in Venezuela under Chavez. The Cuban military cadres introduced in Venezuela to control the country even make the Venezuelan army goosestep Soviet style.

Returning to a more serious topic, for those who speak Spanish here´s a training video made at the Cuban Ministry of Interior. These are senior Interior Ministry officers getting trained. They are given a lesson on capitalist methods, but the trainer is very honest explaining how and why their communist system failed. It has an outline of Cuba´s dependence on the Soviet Union, how Venezuela picked up the slack eventually, but also explains they are very nervous and don´t know if Maduro can hold on to power, and Venezuela provides 40 % of Cuba´s incoming cash and goods.

Anyway, if anybody wants to be a serious student about what goes on in Cuba, they can try listening to this video and taking notes. There´s another video on the use of the internet, and why the interior ministry can´t stop people from using computers, and so on.

Those who have been deceived about Cuba will get a tiny insight into its ugly reality.

This is an interview with Cuban economist Juan Triana. I understand he has got in trouble for being honest about Fidel´s failures and the move towards capitalism

Commies are sons of bitches that morph into fascists with time. That is all you need to know about his political science education TIG. Accept it as absolute truth and bow down to Social Critic Cuban exile who has been everywhere and seen it all's perspective. Punto y se acabo! LOL.

SC is a cuban exile?

But wait, there´s more.

However, as long as the student doesn´t accept Phase I of this re-educational program, it´s impossible to move to higher levels of learning.

Going back to basics, here´s a description of fascism and a discussion regarding whether Maduro has fascist attributes. Maduro is Fidel´s pawn. Therefore fascism in the MAduro regime reflects the Cuban dictatorship´s emerging fascist tendencies.

Fascism and Communism are the same basically is what Social_Critic states. But the USA does business with fascist dictatorships all the time. Example: Chile. Pinochet. But they don't do business with the Castro brothers. Commies. Why not? If fascists and commies are all the same? Why do business with one and not the other? Is it because the USA's govt dumbass policies are not consistent? Are based on self serving commercial interests and not political definitions of fascism and human rights violations....No. American gov't has to be reproduced allover the world. It is the only system with freedom and democracy. The USA should just hunt down Maduro, Fidel and company and any other Commie wannabe and replace them with liberal capitalists that Social_Critic approves of. Period.

I didn't state they were essentially the same, you can't get past the first lesson. Communism always fails. When it fails it metamorphoses into fascism. The key is their common use of dictatorship and repression.

This is a joke.

CNN Venezuela has been pumping out propaganda against the Bolivarian Revolution for fourteen years now. They actually were involved in the 2002 coup attempt against Chavez. One of the correspondents admitted that they taped the generals calling for Chavez's ousting (due to snipers), days before the sniper attack even took place. Come to find out later that those snipers weren't even ordered by Chavez, but actually by the coup generals.

CNN Venezuela is the most bias news you can find on the country's politics. They're no different than the american CNN calling Chavez a fascist dictator. They're ridiculous...This is about regime change propaganda. Nothing more, nothing less.

The only thing I've learned from this thread, is that Social Critic watches too much US propaganda aimed at Latin America.

The first lesson? They are not essentially the same you say? But they both turn into fascists you say. Communism fails and turns into fascism. The USA never backs dictators. We know this as a fact. Hey, hold on...didn't they back Batista. Fulgencio Batista...then washed their hands of him and tried to buy in with the Castro man instead? That failed and they sent in the CIA to slip drugs into his chocolate milkshake...stake out his stomping grounds with plots to assassinate him. Why didn't they try to assassinate Anastacio Somoza in Nicaragua? He was a really bad dictator fascist. But maybe his brand of 'fascism' didn't fail? Because USA backed fascists who are trained with USA money i.e. "School of the Americas" are accepted and Communist nationalist revolutionaries who refuse to take a bribe from the USA gov't are a pain in the ass...that is why!

I'm sure in Social Critic's world, Augusto Pinochet was a social democrat, and Salvador Allende was a fascist dictator.

Not only that, he's a venezualian exile, soviet exile, paris commune exile, chiliean (pre pinochet) exile, basically he has been exiled from every socialist countries (which obviously turn into fascist countries), hence you must at all time take his words as 100% truth.

It would be much more educational if you debated the points made in the video. For example, the Mexican professor described fascism as he saw it. He also agreed, when asked, that Maduro´s regime had fascist characteristics.

Would you care to discuss these ítems brought up in the video?

1. Personality Worship/state cult of personality (in Venezuela´s case Chavez is the subject of a cult of personality, and Chavez´ use of extremely coarse and abusive language during events which he forced all TV stations to show. The videos below are a simple of this behavior).
2. Centralization of power (in Venezuela´s case, Maduro has the power to legislate by presidential decree, and the other state powers such as the judiciary aren´t independent).
3. Repression and censorship (in Venezuela´s case the media is censored and the repression is evident with more than 20 dead and hundreds wounded and arrested in one month of protests).

If we can describe a 21st century fascist state, and then take the individual attributes and find a match in Maduro´s behavior, then we can say Maduro´s regime is more fascist than anything else. And if it is more fascist than anything else, then in my book it´s a fascist regime. I don´t mean it as an insult. It´s just a description of reality.

Not at all.

There´s no general rule. Sometimes they have collapsed, for example East Germany. Eastern European countries seem to have moved away from communism in a better fashion, but those communist regimes were imposed by the Soviet invasion at the end of WW II.

Nations such as China, Vietnam, and Cuba are moving away from communism and becoming fascists to different extents. For example, the Chinese have many fascist attributes but they don´t have a single leader with charismatic attributes. And Mao seems to be a forgotten wax figure they worship out of mere cultural inertia.

Unfortunately none of these regimes are freeing the people. This is what makes the future look so grim. It looks like Orwell may have missed his prediction by 50 to 100 years.

Here´s an article in Spanish tabbing Maduro´s regime "fascist".

Rough Translation

Wednesday March 12, 2014 7:15 PM

Mérida -. Retired former military governor of Mérida, Florencio Porras, said the government of Nicolas Maduro matches the characteristics of fascism.

Referring to the reality that for a month Mérida and the country have lived, Porras said that "whoever searches in Google will find out the characteristics of fascism, and will find that there are fourteen characteristics, and the Maduro regime meets eleven of those. Then we have to ask , where are the fascists? ".

Dagoth Ur wrote:Retards used those same fourteen points to call Bush a fascist. Really you can apply that silly metric to nearly every leader everywhere.

Could be. But let me give you an example. Let´s day you want to define a vampire....

1. Can´t stand daylight
2. Wears black suits
3. Sleeps in a casket
4. Sucks blood
5. Have bat wings and fly
6. Are related to Count Drácula
7. Have pale skin
8. Are afraid of crosses
9. Are afraid of garlic
10. Can be killed with a silver bullet
11. Have fangs
12. Their girlfiends wear long dresses and paint their fingernails nails black
13. They have castles
14. Their followers eat insects

So if we find a dude who fits 11 of these 14 I´d say the guy is probably a vampire.
