Okay, calm down, it is possible I am mistaken. Have you ever had an affair with someone named Wendi?

Well, I was tempted once, but Peter Pan would have broken both my kneecaps.

What’s clear is that the supposedly obvious link between socialism and economic ruin doesn’t check out. It’s not just that it’s easy to find counter examples of socialist governments that fail to set off economic collapse, like Bolivia. It’s also that catastrophe has more often than not come at the hand of committed anti-socialists. Bouts of acute economic chaos ending in hyperinflation broke out in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and even in Bolivia itself back in the 1980s, each time under centrist or right-wing governments deeply at odds with the socialist left.

Socialism, it turns out, explains nothing about why some countries turn into economic basketcases. Instead, it muddles the debate for political ends, delegitimizing progressive policies that have often been shown to work

My first two years of highschool I was a trouble maker. Got sent to the principles office a few times. I would skateboard on school grounds and damage ledges, and break random objects around the halls. I would ride my skateboard down the hall. My last two years I wised up because I realized I needed to get into college if I wanted to work on cool engineering shit. Also, I had met a Chinita girl that set me straight.

@Tainari88,

In 10th grade biology, I was banned from doing labs. One day we were supposed to dissect a frog. My lab partners and I chopped up the frog into bits, and threw the bits at people.   I still find that funny when I think about it.

Sivad wrote:There are plenty of capitalist dictatorships with extreme inequality but wingnuts don't chalk those failures up to capitalism, why is that?

Capitalism doesn't promise economic equality.

Sivad wrote:Capitalism requires universal adherence.

It really doesn't. The Amish aren't heavy credit card users for example. The establishment would like to make it that way however.

Sivad wrote:The only reason capitalism hasn't spectacularly failed in the West is that it was heavily moderated with socialist policies.

It still would succeed, but democracy might not.

Sivad wrote:Denmark and Norway are no less socialist than Venezuela and they're doing just fine.

So Denmark and Norway have price controls on basic products to keep prices low to help the poor like Venezuela? I'm guessing that they don't.

Allegedly? And I'm not 'just a kid', I'm in high school. But you, just like One Degree, seem to think I'm telling porkies about who I am. So cheers for the input, but I don't think I want to talk to anyone who thinks I'm a liar.

There is no age limit for this site. If there was an age limit, you'd probably not be here, @Albert , so you probably should just shut up.

“Telling porkies” ? Okay Britishers, does that weird slang designate an age group?

It's derived from cockney rhyming slang. "porkies" from pork pies = lies. It's kind of an old slang, very old, but that doesn't automatically make it something a millennial wouldn't use because kids copy parents and grandparents as well as follow current fashions.

Why are you still here, @Albert? Isn't it past your bedtime?

I could see no rule stating an age limit, so you tossers yakking about it, are pissing in the wind. :D

The secret must be kept sacrosanct. If the little sprogs realise that adults are just as stupid and deranged as they are, then we're doomed. Doomed, I tell you!

Indeed, civilization itself will seize to function if kids ever find out how stupid their parent actually are. I guarantee you Peddy there will stop going to school after spending some time on PoFo.

For the salvation of civilisation, for the good of all humanity itself, paddy14 must be banned from PoFo. I only pray it's not too late!

For all you misinformed adults in order to join PoFo, all you need to be is 13 years old and a valid email.

And @Potemkin is not Tony Blair.

Also @Rancid is handsome and knows this and tries to charm innocent Texan victims in his Dexter like lair in Austin to recreate his frog dissection glory days.

It promises prosperity for all who are willing to work, and it always fails.

It really doesn't. The Amish aren't heavy credit card users for example. The establishment would like to make it that way however.

What? The Amish are capitalist as fuck. You don't know what you're talking about.

It still would succeed, but democracy might not.

Succeed at what? Making a few assholes fabulously wealthy at the expense of everyone else? Capitalism is promoted as the best way to achieve general prosperity, if it fails to provide general prosperity then it's a failure.

So Denmark and Norway have price controls on basic products to keep prices low to help the poor like Venezuela? I'm guessing that they don't.

Denmark and Norway have much more expansive social programs and they have comparable levels of public control of industry. Price controls aren't an essential element to socialism, they're just bad policy.
