According to SPON, the Islamic State managed to smuggle hundreds of millions of USD worth of currency out of its territory to reinvest in businesses in Iraq that allow it to draw on a constant stream of revenues from the business profits. The Iraqi central bank estimates that there are hundreds of exchanges with IS connection in Baghdad, in which the IS can convert its Dinars into Dollars. The continued finance flow will allow IS to continue its underground fight for the foreseeable future. And since its expenses for administrating its territory or paying fighters have been substantially reduced, the money flow should be more than enough to continue the fight.
