I find it odd that none of you people have opened a thread about this new and dramatic development in Libya:

Hopefully, NTC will now be so weakened that Tripoli can be liberated as well, and then the new republic of Cyrenaica will have to talk to the Jamahyiria-government in the south, hopefully finding a way to reunite the country.

Being big is better then being small, and Libya -with its 5 million citizens - are small enough as it is.

Edit:
Here is a map that explains the situation as I have understood it:

NTC control roughly that area called "Tripolitania", were the US now landed have ground-troops to assist them. Jamahyira are strong in the area called "Fezzan", and Cyrenaica is for the time being a independent nation.

great news i want more undemocratic nations to follow this step and turn there big useless countries into smaller manageable ones , and we Kurds can also benefit from this in Kurdistan regions of turkey and Iran , as Iraqi and Syrians(south and western) Kurdistan are now free .

It's a positive development in the sense that it further splinters factions aligned with the NTC which will bide time for the Green resistance specifically in Fezzan; they control Ghat, there are constant clashes in Sabha, and the recent ethnic clashes in Al-Kufra is a harbinger of collapsing NTC authority within the territory. NTC influence in south Libya is widely under threat and under attack everywhere.

The situation in the northern part of the country is more complicated. Bani Walid currently enjoys local autonomy. Sirte is occupied by militias from Misrata, so there is very little news and credible information coming out of there. This bid to separate Cyrenaica would divide Libya east of Sirte and Ras Lanuf, with Brega being a critical flashpoint and the most western urban area to see potential serious renewed conflict.

What's good about this is that the east is supposedly the stronghold of the NTC, yet it is rapidly losing legitimacy there. What will Western onlookers say when Jalil sends those militias still under his control in the direction of Benghazi?

Alan,
Do you know the situation in Iran? How do seperate Kurds from Persians?
In Zagross mountains there is no clear border between these two, infact there is a spectrum
from persians to kurds.
More precisely, Persian(More in flat places not in mountaines), lors, laks and finally diffrent various types of kurds. (we have half persian and half lors folks, half laks folks, half kurds folks,....)And kurdish is not a language, it is at least three languages. Thats totally a spectrum. There is no line which we say:"ahan, these people in two sides of it are different people".
There is an artificial border in kurdistan but there is no clear reason why the people in two sides should be seperated culturally or linguistically. What is the logic behind your scenario in Iran?
