It is the 20th anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda.In 1994 approximately 800,000 people were massacred over a 3 month period.Abandoned by the UN,Tutsis and moderate Hutsis were massacred by Hutu extremists.The killings continued in UN "safe" areas despite the presence of UN French troops.

The Tutsis should have armed themselves. A worker without arms is a worker living on time that others have granted him.

The genocide had been planned in advance and the Hutu were armed long before the genocide.The Tutsi consisted of only 20% of the population and had little chance of surviving.

Thei chance of surviving would have been a hell of a lot better armed than unarmed (as you must be aware).

The problem is much worst then people not caring about Africans. Unless modern countries send armies to stay, aka occupation, little can be done about it. The african culture is too aggressive, wars and corruption start are way too frequent for a country to work normally. Occupation of course isn't the answer though

Africa isnt some little girl who has been abused by a relative.

Imperialism happened to them because of how shit and weak they are. They need to get better/stronger if they want to stop being exploited.

At least 800,000 people - mostly ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus - died at the hands of Hutu extremists.

The killings ended ended in July 1994 when the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a Tutsi-led rebel movement, marched into Kigali and seized control of the country.UN personnel in Rwanda during the genocide showed "remarkable bravery", Mr Ban said according to AP.

"But we could have done much more. We should have done much more," he said.

"In Rwanda, troops were withdrawn when they were most needed," he added.

"One year later in Srebrenica, areas proclaimed 'safe' by the United Nations were filled with danger, and innocents were abandoned to slaughter. The shame still clings, a generation after the events," Mr Ban sai

In an interview with the French-language weekly news magazine Jeune Afrique, Mr Kagame denounced the "direct role of Belgium and France in the political preparation for the genocide".

He also said that French troops had taken an "active" part in the killings.

France has rejected this charge, with Edouard Balladur, who was French prime minister in 1994, telling Europe 1 radio: "France is in no way complicit in the genocide.

"On the contrary, it of all countries in the world was the only one that took the initiative to organise a humanitarian operation to prevent widespread massacres."

France did send troops who set up "safe zones" in Rwanda. It says they saved thousands of lives but Rwanda's government has long said they did not do enough to stop the killing - and now says they worked with the Hutu militias carrying out the slaughter.

We get accused of forgetting the plight of the Africans. Well this thread has been around for months. Speaking for myself I am moved to do something cause every killing of a civilian is an atrocity.

As a human being I think you should support and encourage the underdog and the weak. Remember you have to speak out at injustice for one day you could be weak and need support.

France went far beyond merely doing nothing. They lured tens of thousands of Tutsi refugees to an area where they guaranteed their safety and then they let the Hutu génocidaires prowl all over them massacring people, without making any attempt to tell refugee their safe zone wasn't in fact safe.

And there were instances of active, hands-on cooperation with the génocidaires.
