It seems that the political debate in India is quite sensitive to the Naxalite rebellion. I'm not too sure about how they are perceived by the Indian government but it seems that the idea that they are some evil movement is being challenged by even the bourgeois congress now.l

Chhattisgarh Police Killed Villagers, Not Maoists, Claims Congress
Raipur, Feb 17 (IANS) Chhattisgarh’s main opposition Congress party members walked out from the state assembly Tuesday, alleging the police killed 17 tribal villagers Jan 8 branding them as Maoist insurgents.
The 38-member Congress legislative party, led by Leader of the Opposition Ravindra Choubey, in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-dominated 90-member state assembly had a heated discussion with Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar over the Jan 8 shoot-out in the state’s southern restive Dantewada district.
The Congress legislators accused the police of killing innocent tribals at Singaram village in Dantewada Jan 8, branding them Maoists. The treasury benches strongly defended the police action, saying those killed in the shoot-out were Maoists, not villagers.
