Hi everybody ,

I like to share my personal viewpoint with you all as i admire few Indian politics such as Mr. Rajiv Gandhi for his work for youth , Our present prime minister , Former President of India Mr. Abdul Kalam and Gujarat CM ..

but from this all i admire the most Mr. Modi the Gujarat CM for his development work in Gujarat , really i have seen many states such as MP, Delhi , Rajashtan , Goa , TN, and many cities such as Mumbai , Nashik , and many from UP but the best infrastructure of the city i found is in Gujarat such as roads , pipe lines , job avability, investment in state , development work and much more to talk ,,, i just don't talk bcoz i admire him but i live in gujarat and i have seen the development compare to other states which are steady and continious work done. He is such a person who has such creative ideas that can bring large investment and job avability in state.

And much more informations related to the person whom i admire such as which movie he likes , what type of food he like , what are his views and much more i got from this site that is

P.V. Narasimha Rao.

Don't know enough about Indian politics to single out a modern political figure I admire, but the Indian right wing in general seems to have their head screwed on right, whereas the Indian left is absolutely insane.

Manmohan Singh deserves a lot of credit for India's economic improvements. If there's any person that has truly improved India, it's probably him. The task he has achieved took him many years as a finance minister and was for sure no easy task. I feel there are just too many special interest groups in India who are against market liberalization and western influence that he has dealt with pretty strategically. These special interest groups have enough influence to project corruption in many ways though -- this is significantly going to hamper India's progress and development once Mr. Singh's term is over because I don't foresee any successors with similar experience to deal with these groups. There's a lot of goals he hasn't accomplished but he has brought India on the right path -- I'm not sure the public will realize this when he's gone and that is very troublesome for India.

I'm also curious to know why someone here picked Nehru. Although Nehru was the founding father and led India into industrialization -- he's known for a lot of failures. Most notably his socialist policies that let to building too many infrastructures that later contributed to hurting rather than healing India. The proposition of giving away Pakistan and parts of Kashmir still affect India till this day. Not to mention the embarassing defeat in the Sino-Indian war which let China annex Aksai Chin. I'm not sure if he's really a worthy candidate. Same goes for Narendra Modhi.

You do not think Pakistan should have been permitted independence?

The reason partition took place in the first place was to establish peace between Hindus and Muslims. Ever since that, the Indian-Pakistan region has been unstable ever since and hasn't come close towards living peacefully. So no, it was not a good idea.

Surely the blame lies in the fact that the partition was not totally completed, and a large Muslim minority remained in Kashmir and other border regions, because they stuck to artificial, rather than organic, borders.

The problem did not lie just in Kashmir, it was in Hyderabad and Junagadh too where there was a significant Muslim presence (the rulers were Muslim). This is why I think it was a wrong idea to give Pakistan away, it brought up too many territorial issues. Kashmir, in particular, was significantly larger than both Hyderabad and Junagadh and was very fertile, so economically it made sense. Secondly, Maharaja Hari Singh wanted independence but this angered the Pakistanis and so the Maharaja seeked for Indian help -- which further complicated the issue.

The problem with the partition was not the idea, but the execution of the plan. Every region with a majority Muslim population should have been permitted to join Pakistan. It is right to condemn Nehru for improperly dividing his nation, but the idea was sound.

That has been an ancient problem, Fasces. The problems in execution comes as no surprise because of their history together. Nehru had the opportunity to either completely destroy such proposition or sow the seeds for trouble. He preferred the latter.

Unity would not have magically done away with the problems, and it is foolish to think they would have. I believe Pakistan and India would have seperated eventually - whether through peaceful or violent means.

I never said problems would cease to exist. Under a unified India, these problems could be controlled -- just like India has been able to control so many riots and other Hindu-Muslim clashes. There's a significant population of Muslims living in India.

Just barging in here...

The partition of India happened 60 years ago and has had enormous consequences in the subcontinent, the region and the world. Yet, many events surrounding the partition are still hotly debated. Only a few weeks ago I met a scholar who explained the reasons for the attachment of Kashmir to India. I was always told that the rulers of Kashmir decided this against the wishes of the majority Muslim population, but now I heard that Nehru insisted on it because his family was originally from Kashmir.

In other news, both Muslim majority countries emanating from the partition, Pakistan and Bangladesh, are faring very badly, whilst India is thriving.
