Question: Why can't one edit their posts after 24 hours?
Answer: Post editing after 24 hours is disabled as a spam prevention measure. Some spammers would make a normal looking first post in order to be approved and slip past the moderators and edit it later. Before this measure was introduced there was even one occasion when a long-time member edited posts years old into spam links. Obviously that is not good for our forum, which is why we no longer permit it even though there are occasionally times when it might be useful.
Although we would like to enable longer editing times in The Basement forum, this is a board-wide setting, so we are unable to assign different editing times on a per-forum basis.
