And there was nothing to stop it. Even the yankees have nick-named it as the "kraut" design. Bundeswehr adopted the US style helmet while the NVA had made a completely new design, so when the US composite helmet was adopted there was no risk of confusion.

But on the Vietnam/Iraq comparison... I think the comparison with Algeria is much better and hold more similarities concerning the course of development of the resistance.
