I found this article on Cnn.com. Gorbachev isn't really back, I was just surprised that he could even make news anymore. His outlook on the war is pretty rational, what do you think?

USSR, being Stalin's creation, could only work under a dictator. Gorbachev was not a dictator he wasn't even a strong leader. So obviously the whole thing collapsed... for better or for worse

Yeah, I do agree with Gorby, to get back to topic. There doesn't need to be a war to combat terrorism, which was the original Bush goal in all this. I'm not a damn bit surprised that the war is being fueled by out of control consumption and everything. Everything bigger, better, more powerful in America-downside is obvious in that it takes more resources to fuel such an economy, and being out of them everywhere else, Bush turns to small, relatively lightly armed countries that are already virtually blacklisted in the world.

Just screw them over, rape them of all worth, and leave them to suffer. Classic American 'diplomacy' in action.

Just wondering... how did STALIN create the USSR? Wasn't it the Bolshevik Party under Lenin? I do think so.

Lenin founded the R.S.F.S.R. I cannot remember when exactly the U.S.S.R. was created - and hence whether Lenin lived to see it.

I've never understood the animosity toward Gorby that was evidenced on the old web-site. If you have read his book "Perestroika", you will understand his goal was to bring the USSR back to its ideals of Marxism-Leninism. rather than Stalinism-Brezhnevism.

He DID NOT cause the fall of the USSR. A new Union agreement betwen the constituent Republics was to be signed on August 20, 1991. The evening before the "hard-liners" made their half-a$$ atempt at seizure of power. THIS event lead to the fall of the USSR, not Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev himself, or his policies.
