If someone had posted some Mohammed caricatures, they'd be out in force.

Die Welt wrote:Among the Islamic associations there is disagreement with regard to the demonstration against Islamic terror planned for Saturday in Cologne.

While the Central Council of Muslims called for participation on Wednesday, the German-Turkish mosque association Ditib announced not to participate in the rallies, and accused the initiators of "sensationalism".

Instead, in all Ditib mosques in Germany during the Friday prayer, a common prayer against terror and for peace is spoken, the Ditib said. This would also be the subject of the Friday speech.

The Central Council chairman Aiman Mazyek called the Muslims living in Germany in the "Rheinische Post" to take to the streets. It was necessary to stand up and fight for the cohesion of society and peace and condemn extremism.

Prominent Muslims have called for the rally under the motto "not in our name". Among the initiators are the liberal Islamologist Lamya Kaddor and the peace activist Tarek Mohamad. The organizers hope for up to 10,000 participants.

Ditib, which is the largest Islamic association in Germany, accused the initiators of being concerned with "media and political claptrap" and not with the needs of Muslims. "We welcome public actions but reject the way in which this announced march has been organized," the statement said. The association points out that the Ditib has already distanced itself several times from terrorist attacks and called for protests.

A joint event would have needed preliminary discussions, is another accusation against the organizers. "We could have explained to the people in advance that on the 22nd day of Ramadan, when nothing was eaten and drunk in Cologne from 3.47 to 21.55 hours, the fasting Muslims simply could not be expected marching at noon at 25 ° C. "

At the same time, the Mosque Association [= Ditib] has issued fundamental criticism: calls for "Muslim" anti-terrorist demos were too shortsighted, stigmatized the Muslims, and narrowed terrorism to only them. "This is the wrong way and the wrong sign because this form of blame divides society." It was a task of the whole society to set a sign against terrorism.

Their other reasons aside (and their ludicrous suggestion that acknowledging Islamic terrorism would be bad for the Muslims, as if they aren't already stigmatized and as if there isn't a serious problem with Wahhabi and Salafist ideologies of Islam being promoted to instigate violence and terrorism at the behest of certain Gulf states), this is pretty straightforward:

lol. Like Trump's inauguration crowd or millions of illegal votes or thousands of Muslims cheering 9/11 that he totally saw on TV.

Both sides are stupid. Stop pretending.

Except that you're exempt from that when you're on a journey (and I'm sure that driving some miles to participate can be defined as a "journey" by the local Imam, with some goodwill), and - do you really think they'd have used that flimsy excuse if someone had painted a naked prophet with a bomb up his ass?

Me neither.

Saeko wrote:Eh. At least they're trying.

Who's trying what? Ditib's trying to piss off the population even more, so that even the big media are taking note now? Yeah, they're sure doing that 8) how nice of them.

The organizers of that rally humbly hoped for 10 000 muslims to participate.

Die Welt wrote:Only about one thousand Muslims march against terror

More than a thousand people have demonstrated together against violence and Islamic terror in Cologne on a peace march by Muslims. After the attacks of Berlin, Manchester, London and the Islamic world it was time to take a stand, said Islamologist and co-initiator Lamya Kaddor at a rally on Saturday. "We do not want anyone in our ranks who kills innocent people in the name of Islam." Muslim civil society should not let the extremists speak.

At first, only a few hundred people had come to the city center under the motto "not with us". Then, during the nearly two-hour march, hundreds more were added. Nevertheless, the number of participants fell far short of the organizers' expectations. The organizers had registered up to 10,000 participants. The police spoke of an uneventful rally.

Banners read: "Muslims are not to blame" or "hate makes the earth a hell". Participant Beyza Gürlevik from Herne said: "We Muslims are affected twofold: from the attacks themselves and because the blame is pushed on us. It is important to show that we are against Islamic terror. "

Kaddor defended the call for demonstration in the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. "We're working during Ramadan. We do sports during Ramadan. Then we can also take to the streets, "said the religious scientist.

According to Cologne Express, only 200 to 300 participants, actually.

"Die Polizei sprach zunächst von 500 Menschen, korrigierte die Zahl dann laut „Express“ noch nach unten auf 200 bis 300. " Quelle: Express Köln, 17.06.17, 16:08 Uhr

And according to eyewitnesses, half of them weren't MENA. So they were either converts or "progressives," meaning to show solidarity (aka push up the numbers so that they wouldn't look as dismal).

Yes, I'd say this rally is a strong statement about the muslimic stance towards Islamic terrorism. Very unambiguous.

Ditib does the typical thing, they are the largest organisation so they don't join others. Also, Ditib is Turkish, whereas Mazyek is Syrian, I suspect an Arab-Turkish rivalry too. I wonder if they have real contacts with the Muslims in Germany.

Or the organisers just couldn't reach out to them.

Despite Ramadan, muslims were able to block a rally of the IB today. Seems they could be "reached" for that. Not that the IB has killed anyone anywhere, ever. Priorities, priorities...

I think it is pretty clear, when Iraq war was about to start millions of people came out in protest. Muslims kill what is now thousands people in the west; non of them (fellow Muslims) ever come out in any significant number to show their opposition to terrorism. To me all it shows is that they do not care and are in sympathy with the Islamic jihadist. Then again, this kind of jihadism grows within their communities anyways.

They could be reached for sure, I just wonder whether who could reach them. It's hard to believe only some hundreds of Muslims could be mobilised throughout Germany to actively oppose Islamic terrorism, whereas the organisers themselves believed there will be 10,000 people at least on the rally.

How many did block the IB rally?
