Sperm counts among western men have halved in last 40 years – study - Page 5 - Politics Forum.org | PoFo

Wandering the information superhighway, he came upon the last refuge of civilization, PoFo, the only forum on the internet ...

Talk about what you've seen in the news today.

Drlee wrote:The reason is internet porn and increased masturbation. Increased masturbation decreases sperm count dramatically.

This is consistent with the Danish test on the military. They are in an environment where masturbation is problematic to say the least. So if the test of the Danish military was conducted after induction it is highly suggestive.

A good test would involve controls to rule out this simple explanation.

*Not a joke. No research. Just good old logic.

I think it is because after five children, I got a vasectomy. That's common sense logic.

I was being cheeky Zag ;) Although outsourcing the way we reproduce probably hasn’t helped.

Who knows, maybe it’s a quality over quantity adaptation? Either way, it’s a travesty that men’s health gets so little attention. I suggest a ‘low sperm awareness’ day. :D

It is the Internet, everything anyone says is suspect. There are plenty of people <coughHindsitecough> who probably do view this as a high sin and the end of civilization and start blowing up cloning facilities.

Sperm Appreciation Day. But that would immediately be followed up by Ovary Appreciation Day. Less porn tie-in in the latter, though. The former could have a fun campaign. Take a shot in the face for health!

Seriously, though, men's health issues ARE insanely underplayed. Everyone trips all over themselves about breast cancer, but colon and prostate cancers are worse. Damn patriarchy.

Women wouldn’t stand for it. I don’t know why men do.

^Such posts are off-topic and made in poor taste.

Beren wrote:There are so many possible causes and risk factors that it makes me think it's a civilisational problem. Highly developed civilisation makes us live longer and less fertile, I guess.

Don't smoke.

Limit or abstain from alcohol.

Steer clear of illicit drugs.

Talk to your doctor about medications that can affect sperm count.

Maintain a healthy weight.

Avoid heat.

Manage stress.

Avoid exposure to pesticides, heavy metals and other toxins.

Great point, in combination with electromagnetic radiation, you get a cautionary biological cocktail. Everything Mayo clinic mentions can impact cellular structures.

Hong Wu wrote:Obviously something is physically lowering sperm counts since this much of a drop can't be attributed merely to "developed civilization" which is not really an explanation at all.
I encourage you to research electromagnetic radiation (vitro & vivo studies).

ness31 wrote:Does it even matter now that we’re all starting life in a test tube :hmm: ?

Back on page 4 of this thread I wrote: As we (the unthinking majority) sleep-walk through our evolution, we will castrate our biological reproductive system because post-electric society will depend on intelligent selection and the scientific method for sustainable growth. Colony collapse will be prevented by Technocratic policies. The Technocracy must strip individuals of their biological independence so populations will need a surrogate state for procreation.

Nonetheless, this is a dangerous approach. I think we need more 'natural' redundancies to fall back on, in case we fail to steer human reproduction in the 'right' direction. What about other lifeforms, are sperm counts falling among other organisms?

Did anyone read this white paper from The National Center for Biotechnology Information Advances Science and Health: There was a significant increase in the diameter of the seminiferous tubules with a disorganized seminiferous tubule sperm cycle interruption in the electromagnetism-exposed group. The serum and testicular tissue conjugated diene, lipid hydroperoxide, and catalase activities increased 3-fold, whereas the total serum and testicular tissue glutathione and glutathione peroxidase levels decreased 3-5 fold in the electromagnetism-exposed animals.
Really think about it.

I remember when PoFo didn't appreciate one-line posts. Real shame, because post quality is declining as quickly as male sperm counts. I think twitter and smartphones harm cognition. Pofo is notorious for collapsing back into divisive commentary, like yall lost your god damn minds.

A dangerous approach you say? Hell, that might just be the understatement of our lifetime!

I don’t know anyone who has kids naturally anymore. It’s downright weird. I’m starting to think the immaculate conception is actually closer to the truth than the biological story we were fed
