I agree that American democracy leaves a lot to be desired but how does that justify what's going on in Venezuela?

My other point is, hands off Venezuela, disgusting imperialists and their cheer-leading useful eejits.

You know it is interesting Skinster. My husband grew up in a poor barrio in Santurce that is part of the greater San Juan, Puerto Rico metropolitan area. Caracas, Venezuela is very very close to San Juan. Only about one hour airplane flight away. I met huge amounts of Venezuelans who all love being tourists. There are historical ties to Venezuela. Chavez met with the then governor of Puerto Rico called Sila Calderon and offered very inexpensive oil to the island so that the Puerto Ricans would not have to pay such ultra expensive gas prices. She was impressed with the offer and wanted to reach a deal. She ran into the problem with the USA saying that PR must buy its oil from a USA high tax tanker system and it must be delivered by merchant marine. That meant that the Venezuelan oil had to be taken to either New Orleans or a Florida port city and off shored and then reloaded onto a USA merchant ship and then sent to Puerto Rico in a very inefficient and bad system. But the point of it was to make sure Puerto Ricans understood they did not control their own shipping industry and had no power to negotiate deals with other Latin American nations. At all. Control. That is what that was about. Even if the Puerto Rican people and consumers had to pay a lot more than even stateside people paid for gasoline and oil products. While earning less than half of what the poorest stateside workers earned.

Then they wonder why things become untenable and there is violence and chaos?

The closest plaza to my husband's old hood had a monument to Simon Bolivar and it was given to the people of that neighborhood from the Venezuelan government.

The USA is actively creating hardship and shit conditions for many. And the response is going to be no credibility, no trust and hatred that is deep and fiery for the issues they have with wanting to dominate in a bad way and not allow other nations to develop systems to serve their own people first and not some imperialistic bullshit that doesn't even help the USA regular folk either.

Actually it doesn't have zero effect, firstly, my taxes pay for your lot killing Palestinians and secondly, I have friends who are Palestinians (and Israelis) so go fuck yourself, I'm never going to stop talking about Palestine until she is free and if you have any more questions, do it it in the correct thread because I'm not addressing off-topic-zionist-deflection-tactics anymore. :D

Well if you have a nation that acts like a damn vampire sucking the blood out of you and not caring about you because they are racist, arrogant freaks with greed as their primary motivator? Why should they even give the American government any leeway in any way?

You got a media there in the USA who actively distorts and never seeks to educate themselves on Latin American political history, economic history or even the relationships that exist between Latin American nations. It is all about some kind of narcissistic dictator who is deaf and hates any language that is not English and not about their own selfish shit ideas (Trump).

Chavez handed Obama a book by Eduardo Galeano (an Uruguayan) called "Las Venas Abiertas de America Latina". "The Open Veins of Latin America". Why did Chavez do that? Because Obama is an educated man. He has his law degree from Columbia University in NYC....but the truth is very rarely do any USA presidents know shit about Latin America. Nothing really. Yet they are in charge of making foreign policy for it. Based on what? On the interests of some oil men like Tillerson and some other assholes who just want the money and the advantages and don't care about those Venezuelans living the hardships.

You even have a Christian televangelist leader like Pat Robertson getting on TV calling for the assassination of Chavez on national USA TV. What kind of stupid Christian is he? Did he know Chavez was a devout Roman Catholic who was an altar boy for his church in his grandmother's hometown? That he quotes scripture all the time? No. All he knows is that Chavez is a socialist. That means he is an atheist and he is against the USA....and Christianity. Because the Latin Americans are foreign, they are strange, they are inferior and they are not to be respected. Robertson said to take their oil.....as if the USA has a right to Venezuelan resources. Where do they get these shitty ideas? Imperialism. And to think Empire and killing off people who you don't know and taking things that are not belonging to you using violence is being a True Christian?

The USA and its right wing Christian groups voting for these Republican dirtballs in government are problematic in the extreme.

Did you know that Nicolas Maduro was a bus driver? Hmmm. I wonder what the job description for Trump would be? Professional 'estafador' or 'conman' ring a bell?

Or it could be Trump might show up in the future on a video with Stormy Daniels....that some Russian Oligarch taped for collateral against any vote not favoring their companies for profit growth.

I am afraid Maduro is not paying off adult film stars.....he is eating bananas instead. Bien maduros los platanos maduros.

Maduro doesn't have the leadership qualities Chavez had. That is for sure.

There's certainly gonna be some tears when the country descends into civil war. If Maduro actually gave a shit about his country or his people he would be doing everything in his power to bring the opposition back into the political process.
