We had John Howard as Prime Minister and he was hated by the same sort who hate Trump. Yet, Jonnie turned out to be an OK PM. He built needed infrastructure and was finically reasonsible. He did a lot for the affluent which partial underlies the current housing bubble and bank issues. But he did do stuff that even his detractors have to admit was good. As a leader, you can get away with being an arsehole if you leave the country in better shape than you found it.
Will Trump build needed infrastructure and make the fed gov finically responsible? And a big issue in America is socio-economic inequality. Will he deal with that? Well, it is how he manages those issues that will decide how posterity sees him.
No politian ever made 100% of the population 100% happy.
If Trump followed this model, he'd be a challenge. Building the needed infrastructure improves the country and provides well paying jobs
But his incessant whining about that ridiculous wall, which he'll never build, will divide the country further. If he built practical infrasrucure, he'd be ok. But he will have to act quickly, because he may soon lose the senate. On the one had, the Democrats have wanted to improve the infrastructure since 2008, but the Republicans blocked it. If the Democratic are asked to support this spending now, it's going to be difficult because there's no money and too much debt. Also, with unemployment being at a record low, job creation won't be much of an argument.
