First modern Britons had 'dark to black' skin, Cheddar Man DNA analysis reveals

Mapping the blue-eyed boy's genes is part of ongoing effort to uncover the DNA of ancient humans. The new study in the journal Nature, led by Inigo Olalde of Spain's Institut de Biología Evolutiva in Barcelona, reports the genetic map of a skeleton found in a Spanish cave. Why It Matters

Scholars had suspected that blue eyes arrived as an import into Europe, brought by late-arriving farmers who invaded the continent more than 5,000 years ago. Contrary to the conventional picture of a blue-eyed, fair-haired northern European, the study suggests that blue eyes were already common among the continent's early hunter-gatherers, along with darker skin.

But those aren't the only results that matter from the study. The researchers also discovered that a number of disease-resistance genes seen in modern Europeans were active in the ancient Spaniard's gene map. And the study adds genetic support to archaeological findings that hint that a widespread hunter-gatherer culture cut continuously across Europe in prehistory.

I assume that Cheddar Man was a close relative of La Brana 1, a 7,000-year-old individual from the La Brana-Arintero site in Valdelugueros (Leon, Spain). Light-skin pigmentation genes of La Brana 1 (SLC45A2 and SLC24A5) are analyzed by Olalde et al. (2014) and their neighboring SNP are absent in Europeans but present in Yorubans, which may be the result of African admixture commonly observed in the region. La Brana 1 also carried the HERC2 gene associated with blue eyes. Sykes' DNA analysis previously concluded that Cheddar Man had mtDNA haplogroup U5, which is typical in northern Europe. La Brana 1 carried the very rare Y-DNA haplogroup C6-V20, a low-frequency European clade of haplogroup C, and mtDNA haplogroup U5b2c1. Haplogroup C is a known Asiatic haplogroup and the first Briton may have been genetically half Asian.

Of the ten variants, the Mesolithic genome carried the ancestral and non-selected allele as a homozygote in three regions: C12orf29 (a gene with unknown function), SLC45A2 (rs16891982) and SLC24A5 (rs1426654) (Table 1). The latter two variants are the two strongest known loci affecting light skin pigmentation in Europeans20–22 and their ancestral alleles and associated haplotypes are either absent or segregate at very low frequencies in extant Europeans (3% and 0% for SLC45A2 and SLC24A5 respectively) (Fig. 2). We subsequently examined all genes known to be associated with pigmentation in Europeans22, finding ancestral alleles in MC1R, TYR and KITLG and derived alleles in TYRP1, ASIP and IRF4 (Supplementary Information). Although the precise phenotypic effects cannot currently be ascertained in a European genetic background, results from functional experiments20 indicate that the allelic combination in this Mesolithic individual is likely to have resulted in dark skin pigmentation and dark/brown hair. Further examination revealed that this individual carried the rs12913832*C single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) and the associated homozygous haplotype spanning the HERC2/OCA2 locus that is strongly associated with blue eye color23.

Wait, is 10,000BC melanin composition of the British isles supposed to justify Muslim and African migration to today's Europe? These people have nothing to do with Moroccans, Syrians, Sudanese, etc. They're more closely related to western Europeans. If there was an educated, highly productive black elite ready to move into Europe from Africa, they should all be accepted. But of course there isn't. And of course import Islam is incompatible.

This is certainly a shocking refutation for those that don't believe in race. That racial differences can emerge so quickly is surprising and goes against every thing the lefties have been telling us for decades.

What's the one thing we all agree on? That there's a massive difference between us and chimpanzees. A massive difference not just in appearance but in intelligence and behaviour. Although Humans and Chimps share 98.8% of their DNA. The earliest racial splits occurred around two hundred thousand years ago, that's 2.5% of the gap between chimps and humans. The "Race is a social construct" dogma, is based on the strange proposition that there have been no significant biological behavioural evolution in the last two hundred thousand years. This is particularly odd when you remember that homo sapiens and Neanderthals only split four hundred thousand years ago.

I was an early proponent of out of Africa. And so I remember that we were denounced as racists for supporting the theory although the cultural Marxists now try and push the theory as their own.

I prefer to retain an open mind on these matters. Although Neanderthals seem to have been substantially inferior to homo sapiens, it is certainly possible that Europeans actually gained from mixing with Neanderthals. That a minority of Neanderthal genes were superior to homo sapiens and they have been selected for in European populations.
