Syria's Assad approves gas attack in Idlib despite warning, report says

President Bashar al-Assad has approved a gas attack in the Idlib province, which is the country’s last rebel stronghold, a report on Sunday said.

Reports of Assad's approval comes about a week after President Trump warned the strongman and his allies not to “recklessly attack” the province. Trump called any gas attack a potential “grave humanitarian mistake.”

The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, was first to report on Assad.

U.N. officials believe an offensive on Idlib would trigger a wave of displacement that could uproot an estimated 800,000 people and discourage refugees from returning home. The U.S. and France have warned an Idlib offensive would trigger a humanitarian crisis and warned that a chemical attack in Idlib would prompt a western retaliation.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the international pressure did little to sway Assad, who benefits from support from Russia and Iran. The report said Assad has approved the use of chlorine gas.

For Russia and Iran, both allies of the Syrian government, retaking Idlib is crucial to complete what they see as a military victory in Syria’s civil war after Syrian troops recaptured nearly all other major towns and cities, largely defeating the rebellion against Assad.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday urged his counterparts to accept a cease-fire and avert a “bloodbath” in Idlib. But Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a “total annihilation of terrorists in Syria,” while Iranian President Hassan Rouhani spoke of “cleansing the Idlib region of terrorists.”

On Sunday, government forces bombed the village of Hobeit in Idlib province, killing an infant girl and wounding several other civilians, the Syrian Civil Defense search-and-rescue group reported.

“We haven’t said that the U.S. would use the military in response to an offensive,” one senior administration official told the paper. “We have political tools at our disposal, we have economic tools at our disposal. There are a number of different ways we could respond if Assad were to take that reckless, dangerous step.”

I doubt the veracity of this claim and intelligence. Assad's winning that war and there's no possible way that he needs to use chemical weapons.

Yet again, as the Syrians surround and move to liberate another major city from head-chopping slavers, Western media portrays the upcoming battle as if the Syrians are out to murder their own civilian population which is imprisoned by Al Qaeda rebels in Idlib this time. A number of us also called out ahead of time that there would be a repeat of the same pattern in which Western media portrays the rebels, who are currently raping, pillaging, looting, murdering, torturing, and enslaving people in Idlib, as simple anti-government fighters, and the impending pro-government assault on Idlib, which would free the civilians from Al Qaeda rule, as an "humanitarian crisis," followed by claims that Assad is doing more chemical weapons stuff, for the... fuck, I've lost count of how many times Al Qaeda rebels have pretended that.

Note how every single battle by the Syrians against Al Qaeda and ISIS militants holding any city or town in Syria is always, without exception, portrayed in article after article as an humanitarian crisis followed by articles about the plight of civilians "escaping" the "carnage" caused by the government.

This is as opposed to Al Qaeda/ISIS militants raping women, murdering and torturing people at will, enslaving men/women/children, and imposing terror on the civilians they've imprisoned in every city they control. Note how the humanitarian crisis is always the government, as if terrorists, many of which fight under the banner of the same organization the US is supposedly supposed to fight against (I guess not???) should be allowed to remain in control of swathes of territory or something fucking stupid like that.

I can't understand why anyone takes the "humanitarian crisis" or "chemical weapons attack" bullshit seriously anymore. How many times does it need to happen for it to be clearly propaganda meant to undermine the government's attempts to defeat the Islamist militants in Syria? It's unfathomable and mind-boggling.

I'm reviving this post, and thus this thread, because given the Syrian Government's offensive to take back the city of Idlib from the Jihadis, I have the suspicion that a fake chemical warfare attack will again be in the works as part of an effort to save the Islamists from being beaten totally in Syria.

Either another "chemical weapons attack" will suddenly appear in Western media followed by "how long will we wait until we do something about evil Assad?" or Western media will release article after article pouring on thick, syrupy sympathy for (based on other Islamist groups in Syria, a large proportion are foreign Islamist adventurers) Al Qaeda fighters in Idlib being killed by Syrian soldiers. Even when the battle lines put the majority of the trapped civilians behind government lines, the freeing of slaves, the freeing of women held in rape centers, and the freeing of civilians slated to be beheaded for not following Shariah law by government forces will be twisted as "civilians suffering in midst of government onslaught on moderate rebels."

Always "moderate" rebels.

The American ambassador to Berlin has been badgering the German government for weeks to get the Germans to participate in the next attack on Syria. From which I conclude that the decision to attack has been made. They now just need to get the White Helmets to stage another false flag operation to protect their favorite jihadists.

Luckily, constitutional requirements in Germany are such that a German participation is virtually impossible. They would need proof that Assad is actually responsible, a UN mandate and a vote in parliament. The scientific service of the German parliament already announced that a German participation would be illegal. Last time the FUKUS launched their missiles before the OPCW inspectors could even get to Syria for the investigation.

I hope that Putin will strengthen air defenses in Syria to intercept most missiles again.

I actually find it grimly amusing that these "US officials" have practically decided to tell us in advance that they're going to stage another chemical attack. Although I would hope the added detail of Assad "personally approving" it - the big missing piece in the puzzle up until now! - might be a step too far even for the most gullible liberal interventionist to believe.

Filming of staged chemical attack in Syrian Idlib begins - Russian MoD

Footage, meant to serve as proof that the Syrian government has conducted a chemical weapons attack in Idlib, Syria, is to be handed to global news outlets by the end of Tuesday, the Russian military claims.

Several Middle East TV channels and a US news channel have been sent to Jisr al-Shughur in Syria’s Idlib Governorate to produce the footage needed for the provocation, a statement by the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation said. It added the intelligence came from local residents of Jisr al-Shughur.

“All the footage of the staged provocation in Jisr al-Shughur is to be delivered to the newsrooms of TV channels, which are to broadcast it after its publication on social media,” the statement claimed.

It also said that an Islamist group was provided with two canisters of a “chlorine-based chemical” for the purpose of the operation.

The Russian military said the footage would include scenes of White Helmets operatives treating supposed victims of an apparent barrel bomb chemical weapon attack by Damascus.

Moscow has repeatedly warned that a false flag chemical weapon attack was being prepared in Idlib, giving the US and its allies justification to attack Syrian government forces. Senior US officials have threatened Damascus with retaliation if it uses chemical weapons in Idlib and even preemptively assigned the blame for any such attack to the government.
