My guess is he's not pushing hard against this at this early stage because he wants to avoid any and all criticism he'll likely get for....just about anything. An extradition process can take years tho so I'm sure there'll be more from Corbyn and his camp on this issue. Diane Abbot has already been vocal against it:
I agree with you partially about this, as I believe Corbyn has not stood firmly / gone as far as he could; on an issue so important to our world today. As far as avoiding 'any and all criticism' goes; we should know that 'politics' does not and cannot escape from that. In the world of conflicts we live; this is what a great part of politics is all about...
And yes, Diane Abbot did go vocal about the subject in the Parliament, but her wordings were very carefully selected then; and later on she clarified her position on it in a tweet:
“Assange skipping bail in UK, or any rape charge that may be brought by Swedish authorities shouldn’t be ignored.”
She basically did not stand against those (Labor and Conservative) MPs who signed a letter to Home Secretary Sajid Javid and herself; requesting the extradition of Assange to Sweden for the former already dropped charges against him.
