The Independent wrote:A woman who ran as a write-in candidate against Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has unlawfully declared herself governor of the state and been implicated in a plot to kidnap and prosecute Mr DeWine.

Renea Turner, who ran against Mr DeWine as a write-in candidate in 2018, posted a video to her Facebook on Thursday in which she places her hand on a Bible and proclaims herself the governor of Ohio.

"Ohio is free from Tyrannous leadership," she wrote in a Facebook post following the stunt.

The day after she posted the video, Ms Turner met with an individual who claims she pitched them a plot to place Gov. DeWine under house arrest.

According to the individual - who asked local media not to identify them over fears of retribution - Ms Turner told them that they would kidnap Mr DeWine, try him for several alleged crimes, and then sentence him to exile or execution.

According to the whistleblower, the plot against Mr DeWine was a response to the governor's coronavirus mandates.

This is the second such plot in recent times against a governor over their coronavirus mandates and this probably won't be the last. Apparently, doing anything to stop the spread is tyranny that should be punished by death after a drum-head trial.

She denies the plot, but still claims that she is the rightful governor, but with what happened last month, I really don't believe her.

Disputed Acting President of Venezuela

Swearing-in as acting president

Main article: Venezuelan presidential crisis

After what he and critics of the Maduro administration described as the "illegitimate" inauguration of Maduro on 10 January 2019, Guaidó challenged Maduro's claim to the presidency.[68] The National Assembly declared Guaidó was willing to assume the responsibilities of the presidency,[69][70] and continued to plan to remove Maduro. Guaidó told the Wall Street Journal that "[i]t's not about twisting arms, breaking kneecaps, but rather holding out a hand" and offered "amnesty to military officers who joined efforts for a transition in power".[28] They called for demonstrations on 23 January,[71][72] the 61st anniversary of the overthrow of dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez.[73] Large numbers of demonstrators came out in cities throughout Venezuela and across the world.[73][74] Guaidó declared he was acting president and took the presidential oath at a rally in Caracas.[75]

I read and commented about that in another topic. I see no reason to comment further on that, though in this case, she has significantly less legitimacy with a significantly less noble motive for overthrow. No, I'm not saying all should hail Guaidó, it's that this case is far more ridiculous.

So you're anti-Guaidó, then?

I want Maduro gone, but I think the opposition should chose someone better and NOT call on foreign intervention, though I don't view him as the villain you do, so I'm closer to neutral, though if someone better comes about, I'm supporting them, especially when Venezuela is in a different situation where not even the other side is playing fair, so I'm taking that into account. I mildly dislike the guy. But regardless of what Guaido has done, at the very least he has a pretense of legitimacy under Article 233 being at one point the President of the National Assembly (removed form that position after he made his claim), and a large (not claiming majority) amount of backers, where it is understandably why he would be the one to dispute the election if there was the belief in election fuckery, and thus have a claim (no matter how weak), while this women only has a significantly smaller group of extremists and wasn't even elected into any office. Even if the Governor was to commit misconduct in office, this woman wouldn't even be anywhere within the line of succession. Regardless of the Guaido situation, this is objectively dumber. Hell, this woman is objecting to COVID-19 restrictions.

If Nancy Pelosi was to declare herself the rightful President for instance (even without good pretense), it would still be a better claim than me proclaiming myself the President over not liking Trump's COVID-19 policies and I was just a write in candidate at one point.

Yea, calling for foreign intervention certainly taints everything. Bad move. However, this is a common tactic by opposition parties. Left and right.

I know, regardless, let it be clear that I strongly oppose a military option for Venezuela and we should mainly bud out of situations like this. I'm going to give my anti-Maduro opinions, though we do intervene too much.

Turner confirmed in a Friday interview with Cleveland.com that she was trying to recruit people to place the governor under “house arrest.” The plan was revealed when an individual she attempted to recruit filed a police report last week. State police then visited Turner but did not make an arrest. As of this writing, not a single national news publication had reported the Ohio developments Though it is not known how far advanced this particular plot was or how many people were involved, it comes just over two weeks after federal officials arrested over a dozen fascists who planned to kidnap and kill Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and also discussed targeting Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. Trump has made no secret of his plans to mobilize far-right supporters to invalidate the popular vote and attempt to remain in office. This strategy is focused particularly on battleground states like Ohio and Michigan.

Turner is a Trump supporter who has connections to a group of Republican state legislators who have been calling for DeWine to be arrested for the damage to business interests caused by statewide lockdown measures.... In a press conference held Friday to address other matters, DeWine responded to a question about the plot by saying he had not been previously briefed by police or federal officials.

He indicated that he took the plot seriously: “Look, we have people in every state who believe that they can take the law into their own hands. We have people who believe the government’s illegitimate and they have every right to go and basically overthrow the government in one form or the other. I think it’s incumbent upon all of us to denounce that and say that’s wrong.” ... Turner acknowledged on Friday that state police visited her after reports of the plot surfaced and treated her in a friendly manner, telling Cleveland.com that one policeman “said he was just there to check out my temperament and what my plans are.”

Another state legislator seeking to oust or arrest DeWine, State Representative Nino Vitale, claims the coronavirus was created by Bill Gates. Vitale led efforts earlier this year to force the resignation of Dr. Amy Acton, the director of the Ohio Department of Health and leader of the state’s coronavirus response, who stepped down in June due to death threats.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that in May, “protesters, some armed, showed up at her Bexley home several times. … Acton was given security detail, an unusual step.” At the time, an ABC affiliate in Cleveland wrote, “Neighbors reported several men walking up and down the street with assault weapons stating that there will be no violence ‘for now.’”

Representative Vitale referred to Acton, who is Jewish, as a “globalist” and a “medical dictator.” Thirty-two Republican state legislators, including Vitale and Becker, signed a declaration demanding DeWine reopen the state immediately.

Earlier this year, Vitale and other state legislators said DeWine was attempting to set up “concentration camps” in the state. If “your child tests positive for COVID they will remove your child from your home,” Vitale said on Facebook. His claims were also picked up by the Breitbart-linked Ohio Star, which published an article titled “Ohio FEMA Camps—Still More Questions than Answers” on September 4.

A report in the Ohio Capital Journal raises questions about Vitale’s possible ties to Turner herself, but makes clear that she was at the very least motivated by his incendiary statements: “Turner shared one post by Vitale from May 18, in which he accused DeWine of ‘giving himself total dictatorial power.’ Vitale also falsely suggested the governor knew about the virus in March 2019, many months before the novel coronavirus was ever discovered.”

It is not known if Turner has met with more legislators beyond Becker, including Vitale or the other Republican legislators sponsoring the impeachment effort: Paul Zeltwanger and Candice Keller.

There are also questions as to Turner’s possible ties to the Trump ccampaign...Ohio is also a hotbed of militia activity. The Michigan plotters met in Dublin, Ohio in June, and FBI agent Richard Trask indicated that representatives of militia groups from “several states” were present.

After the arrests of 14 Michigan plotters earlier this month, the Columbus ABC affiliate reported: “In Ohio, a dozen militia groups have either started or have been active on the website MyMilitia.com since March when Governor Mike DeWine ordered people to stay in their homes due to the coronavirus.”

As in Michigan, the anti-lockdown rallies earlier this year provided the basis for far-right groups to meet and plan. Many well-funded right-wing groups were involved in planning the anti-lockdown rallies that took place at the Ohio state capital in April.

The event was sponsored by FreedomWorks, a subsidiary of a group funded by the billionaire Republican Koch brothers. The Ohio Liberty Coalition’s president is John McAvoy, who the Center for Media Democracy explains is “on the board of the Northwest Ohio Conservative Coalition.”

While many questions remain about Renea Turner’s connections and about how far advanced this particular plot was, what is clear is that the Trump administration has created a climate so toxic and violent that plots like this one became inevitable. This is not an accident, it is a critical element of his political strategy. The Democratic Party has remained completely silent on these dangerous developments in Ohio.

Even just clearer messaging is good enough. That's the problem with the Trump admin.

No clear coherent strategy on anything. He's basically winging the whole presidency. That's not what a leader should do. He just kind of does a bunch of stuff, but no vision. that's simply not good enough.

Indeed, a leader sticks their neck out trying to plot a course of action not knowing the result but aiming for a desirable end. They try to bring the people on the journey with clear communication and what you said, vision.

You're aware that Maduro was democratically elected, while Guaidó wasn't, correct?

He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2013 and as Vice President of Venezuela from 2012 to 2013 under Chávez. After Chávez's death was announced on 5 March 2013, Maduro assumed the presidency. A special presidential election was held in 2013, which Maduro won with 50.62% of the vote as the United Socialist Party of Venezuela candidate. He has ruled Venezuela by decree since 2015 through powers granted to him by the ruling party legislature.[2][3]

That, and watching the partisan hacks in Fox News praise him over following the party line and opposing him when he doesn't. He watches them all day because he needs constant defense and praise. Apparently, he won't condemn acts like this either, because they're his base. I wouldn't put it past him to try to install his own governors as he wanted to unconstitutionally dissolve the Ninth Circuit.
