"Everything is going according to plan."
Saddam Putsein (indeed a great military strategist)

Sweden , following Finland, signed an agreement on defense cooperation. The US gained access to 17 different major military bases, ports and airports owned by the Swedish army.

Even before Finland and Sweden started signing up with NATO the Baltic Sea was already the "NATO Lake." Now though Rear Adm. Fredrik Lindén the commander of Sweden’s 1st Submarine Flotilla is saying that “With five submarines we can close the Baltic Sea. We cover the areas of interest with our radars and weapons.” Close it to Moscow empire of course.

I read somewhere that the Kauhava City Council voted unanimously to offer to host a NATO base. Mayor Vesa Rantala said Kauhava is Finland’s only military airport with a central location to the Baltic countries, the Baltic Sea, and all the Nordic countries. He noted, “When we considered the further use of our airport, we realized that we have the longest runway in the area and a very strong will to defend the country.”

Finland will provide a ground force of approximately 4,000 Soldiers to NATO under the supreme military commander who is always from the United States and who has the NATO Military Committee of member states generals and admirals. Indeed, only the United States can unite Europe's armed forces in a common cause, ie, checkmate the Mongol - Muscovite barbarians.

Somewhat ironically, this only confirms the worries that Russia had about other countries being too close to its borders and not under Russian influence.

The primary background reason that Russia invaded Ukraine is they do not want to have a country so close to their heartland where the US and NATO could set up military bases.

Now that Sweden and Finland are allowing the US to operate in their military bases, it just proves the Russian point and proves their worries were not unfounded.

From the Russian national security perspective, this just validates their decision to get involved in Ukraine.

Everything validates their decision because they just can't be wrong and can't do anything about it anyway. Everything that happens is a direct consequence of their decision, without which it just wouldn't happen. They wanted to conquer Ukraine anyway because they consider it belonging to them, whether it's in NATO or not, but they've lost it for good + NATO's also expanding.

What nonsense.

As a consequence of the war, Russia had to withdraw ~80% of its forces from NATO borders and NATO gained two additional members that increased the border with NATO massively.

Of course, Russia doesn't actually fear NATO in that sense. It wants to exercise control over its former territory and NATO prevents that.

I'm just letting you know, from the Russian side, they have always viewed this as an inevitability if any conflict were to erupt, which is precisely what they are concerned about.

Control does not necessarily mean complete control. Russia does want to exert influence in other nearby surrounding countries and have a sphere of influence.

This is not so different from China or the United States throughout its history.

But again, part of the reason Russia wants to exert control outside its borders is to have power, and that power is to be able to protect itself in any conflict in the future.

Sure, wouldn't it be great if all the nations could live in peace. But the nations do not all trust each other, and do not want to get bossed around.

Let's not forget U.S. military involvement in Yugoslavia (1999), Libya and Syria (2014), which did not get the most coverage from the American media.
