Skynet wrote:A ceasefire which is limited is no solution it needs a peace plan

Indeed, yet that is not quite possible as long as Hamas would rather have the type of war that is currently being fought over a peace plan.

Something similar can be said about the Israeli right, but they are easier to replace than Hamas.

Part of the issue is that each side has different views as to what the problem is and what the solution is.

Biden cares about getting re-elected. His problem is that he cannot look like a genocide supporter. The solution is to portray himself as a critic of Israeli policies that lead to the death of white humanitarian aid workers. Whether or not there is peace is irrelevant to him.

Israeli society is set up to incentivize acquisition of land and resources from Palestine. Consequently, a lasting peace would actually be opposed to the goals built into Israeli society. In this respect, the IDF and Israeli government will be doing everything possible to avoid stopping military action.

The Palestinians actually want peace. But they do not simply want an end to the current war. They also want an end to the hostilities and violence that is part of “peacetime” in Palestine. This requires radical changes in Israeli society and politics.

Israel never gave up Gaza. An occupied territory is not sovereign.

And since Israel does not have a settler colonialism relationship with Egypt, a comparison between Egypt-Israeli relations and Palestine-Israeli relations is meaningless.

Nobody said it does. Occupation requires control, which can even be done through a puppet government, but that is also not what describes Hamas' relations with Israel. Israel occupying Gaza also implies Israel having the ability to put boots on the ground anywhere in Gaza with ease, just a matter of hours, an ability that it lacks given just how long the war has taken and how long it took for Israel to start doing just that.

Gaza has been under military occupation since 1967.

While the Israeli government disputes this (because of the “withdrawal” of the IDF), it still retains military control over the area and controls the borders, leading the UN and most human rights groups to consider Gaza as an occupied territory.

A blockade is different from an occupation.

A blockade is an act or means of sealing off a place to prevent goods or people from entering or leaving. There is currently a blockade of humanitarian aid in Gaza.

An occupation is the action, state, or period of occupying or being occupied by military force. Such as the IDF having military control of Gaza.
