Died, Valentin Pavolv, 66, the last Prime Minister of the U.S.S.R.; following a prolonged illness; in Moscow. In August 1991, Pavlov joined a group of hard-liners in attempting a coup against reform-minded Mikhail Gorbachev. The coup collapsed after three days. Pavlov was jailed, but amnestied was by parliamnet in 1994.
